Go to a book signing: We've all become used to seeing football teams fielding 11 players, but that has not always been universal. During the Great Depression, small rural schools had to develop six-man teams to make up for shortages in eligible players. These six-man teams were common in Louisiana, and in town like Dutchtown, Denham Springs, Brusly and St. Gabriel. On Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. Coach Barrett Murphy will tell stories from his new book Barefoot, Bloodied, and Bruised: The Story of Louisiana Six-Man Football at the Ascension Parish Library in Galvez.
