You might be right. You might be wrong. But
I just wanted to take a minute to tip my hat to the players, coaches, and community of Gordon. What they’ve done this year has been flat out impressive. As they head into the playoffs, you can’t help but think we might be watching one of the best six-man teams to ever suit up.
Folks like to debate how this team would stack up against some of the greats of the past and sure, that’s always a fun discussion. But when you really stop and look at it, what makes this Gordon group special isn’t just talent, it’s how they play. Most great six-man teams over the years have had one dominant workhorse with a solid cast around him. But this team? They’re built different.
I dug through their stats, and what jumps out is what these kids have sacrificed for the team. Nobody’s chasing numbers. Nobody’s padding stats. Some of their season totals are what other kids put up in a single game and yet, they’re blowing people out. That says everything about their mindset.
You won’t see them on the top of the leaderboards for carries, passing yards, or touchdowns, but that’s the beauty of it. They’ve built something bigger than one player. And to see some of these kids getting recruited with limited touches and low stat lines tells you how much college coaches respect what’s going on there.
I’ve heard folks say, “Well, if I had that kind of talent, I’d win state too.” And I just have to grin. Talent is one thing ,handling that much talent is another. Keeping that many kids and parents bought in to a team first attitude takes a special culture, and Gordon has nailed it.
One thing that stuck out to me was reading that they ran seven plays, to seven different players, for seven touchdowns. One of their biggest names didn’t even score , not because he couldn’t, but because it wasn’t his turn. That’s rare in today’s world, and honestly, it’s refreshing to see.
As a fan of six-man football, I’ve really enjoyed watching this group. In a time when everything seems to be about stats, rankings, and self-promotion, Gordon has been a throwback to what team football is supposed to look like.
Now that the playoffs are here, I do hope they get tested , not because I doubt them, but because great teams deserve great challenges. There are a few solid squads that could give them a good fight, and that’s what makes playoff football so fun.
No matter how it all shakes out, I just wanted to give credit where it’s due. This team has set the standard for how to play the game the right way,unselfish, disciplined, and together.
So hats off to the Gordon Longhorns, the players, the coaches, and the community. You’ve put together something special, and no matter how this ride ends, you’ve already earned a place in six-man history.

You can hope that Gordon gets tested, but it probably won’t happen. They will get scored on a few times but very few. Besides being loaded with talent, they have that Ace in the hole, Coach Mike Reed. The opposition will come up with some new wrinkle each game, but Mike will have it countered in short order. And then it will be Katy bar the door! Game over!
And to MrWordX, pertaining to next season, Gordon won’t be on the same level personnel wise, but as long as Coach Reed is there, they will be extremely competitive, you can count on that.

Now add that to winning 8 games on the road (1 being 11-man) and I don't think its even a competition for best team ever. Talk about battle tested. You have to tip your hat to that team, community, and coaches (fantastic group of men over there).
Water valley and gordon in the d1 state championship and gordon by 45+ is my prediction

Agree on the teams, but it won't be an early ending. Water Valley is extremely athletic and will make them play 4 full quarters!

Fort Hancock is the best team of all time. 4 consecutive state championships (1988-1991) followed by a 2nd place finish in 92. They had 70 consecutive wins, far more than Gordon. Sadly, many people don't remember or never witnessed the greatness of Vicente "Cheetah" Ramirez.

You always hear how great some old time player was and then you see they couldn’t hang at a school like Sul Ross or whatever naia directional school is closest to their hometown.

I’m not sure if anyone has accurate 40 times for the Gordon players but i put Ry Reeds 100m track time into a converter and it said 4.3 40 yard dash. Not sure of the accuracy on that converter i used, but that is incredibly fast
Nothing against them, but no they won’t. Be happy to get into the 3rd quarter and consider that a win. The Gordon team is just on a different level.

I might bet my hunt shack they don't make state next year (not my good one), but they have talent on the bench that finishes off their half time games. Coach Reed has built a *program* of the highest order.

Maybe I’m biased since I’m from Aquilla but i do think Aquilla would beat Water Valley as long as they showed up ready to play. Their last showing against Abbott wasn’t great compared to how they’ve been playing.
Neither team stands a chance vs Gordon. Gordon has been letting off the gas in every game. That’s the only reason they aren’t #1 in everything.
