6 loss teams in State Semi-Finals

Does anyone know if a 6 loss team has ever made it this far? I'm not asking to disparage Loraine. If anything they should be commended for getting hot at the right time and playing good football. I'm just wondering if we are watching a historical run.

Back in 2010 Sterling City went all the way to the D2 championship game with four losses. Of course, Richland Springs handed them their fifth loss in convincing fashion, 46-0. That's about as close to six losses as I can recall right of the bat. The difference here is that, as I recall, all of Sterling City's losses were to D1 schools until that title game; not so with Loraine.

Actually I think Loraine is 8-5. 6-7 if you opt to put the two JV games as loses. Ill have to agree that those youngsters are starting to come around. People can say what they want about playing those two jv games but it actually helped the confidence of the team, it is what it is and that's why they play the game. Anything can happen on any given night.

If you don't count the two games they played against jvs then Loraine's regular season record would be 2-6. That makes what Hauk and company have done even more remarkable.

The job done by the coach is remarkable but he also has a heck of an athlete in #1. I pretty sure some coaches are shocked they beat Loraine in scrimmages and watched them struggle all year. Just goes to show you stay health peak at the right time and anything can happen and scrimmages don’t matter. Good luck this week Loraine.

Im not tryin to butt any heads, but I can't find the six loses for Loraine. I can only come up with 5. I guess everyone is expecting them to end up with six, lol.

Loraine forfeited their game with Hermleigh varsity and played Ira JV that week- I believe that's what happened if my memory is correct.

I just like how how they played another 6-6 team the last round I'm sure it will come to an end this weekend. But just goes to show you REGION 1 is a joke no-matter D1 or D2 Valley and Loraine have had the easy road up to now thank you UIL for sifting out the weak contenders.

Loraine is region II I believe.. Thought region I was Groom? And are you just speaking about this year? Because Valley has had some great teams and Motley County in D2 was pretty good a few years back!

let me clear it up. Loraine is region 2 playing region 1 Groom. Throck is 3 and Calvert is 4. One and two have the easy road just like D1 Valley has had good teams GOOD not GREAT they shouldn't be where they are. They are only as good as the UIL makes them. They PLAY no one meaning district and or playoffs till semis. I also thought they should of lost to Happy I guess some one in that town is expecting a check.

Valley has had great teams and is one of the top programs in the state! They can't control who they meet up with in the playoffs. I seem to remember them being the closest ones to Throck a couple years back. As for region 2, Grandfalls won state out of that region? Motley won state out of region 1? What's your beef with Valley?

We're getting off the subject but D2, Region 1 is rock solid. Follett is always a contender and Groom has terrific athletes who are very well coached. The Tigers are definitely the class of the west this year and will be a tough opponent the rest of the way.

Thanks for helping to clear that other lose up. In that case that makes sense, but as for region two being weak, it will be tough for the next two to four years. All the games were pretty competitive after Bi-Dist. Buena Vista is losing 3 seniors, Sands two seniors, and Loraine just 1sr. All of those teams will have its core back. Not a bad accomplishment for Loraine which would be a jv team in most cases, lol. At any rate you can't take away what Groom and Loraine have both accomplished because they did what they had to do on the field. Like I said before THAT IS WHY YOU PLAY THE GAME! Good luck to the teams left playing.

The whole thing about their record is a topic of debate. Loraine doesn't count the 'loss' to Hermleigh when they cancelled the game then played the Ira JV. Of course Hermleigh does want to count this. That is why there is a discrepancy. I won't get into the he said/he said of this. I just wish coaches the best in working things out like this in the future.

Coach Hauk sent me a note this week talking about how he did what was best for his team. I just want to publicly acknowledge and agree with him. Yes, he has done a great job getting his team ready for the 'important' part of the season -- district and playoffs.

One thing I would like to point out is Loraine's ranking/rating... If I remove the forfeit to Hermleigh, they stay within 0.4 of a point, so that does not effect them at all...

Good luck to all eight remaining teams.
