2007 Richland Springs vs 2014 Crowell

Saw on @BigCountrySport on twitter where he did a hypothetical poll on who would win between 2007 Richland Springs and 2014 Crowell. What are y'all's thoughts on how it would go? Last I checked the poll was tied at 27 for each.

I firmly believe richland would take them, without too much of a battle. I think the Throck team that won state a couple years ago would beat crowell as well. Not trying to put crowell down, they are rock solid, but I believe the competition in six-man is in sort of a drought.

I would take RS by 35 maybe even by 45. I believe Crowell is good but I don't think they've played the competition RS did. I mean the 2007 RS team faced Happy with that Allstar QB Darius Kimbrough I believe his name was that could throw the ball a country mile. Then they played Northside who I believe was the fastest kid to play sixman football Colby white and Zack Agnew. Then they faced Rule who's entire team probably ran 4.6s and beat them like they were nothing. I would take the state champs from 04-07 over this years Crowell team. That's just my opinion though and heck we will never know what the outcome would be. Unless they build a time machine in the next month or so.

Coach, I respect your opinion highly but wonder what's behind your conclusion.
I'll display my ignorance here, 07' RS was spread was it not? Crowell is run over ya, pass (successfully) when we feel like it, or if they ever need to. Does a equally talented and equally coached team running spread beat one running mostly tight?

Have you not watched Crowell lately? Slingin the ball over the field

Odds are that if you could look at the location that the big springs website votes were coming from, you would have about 23 or so in the immediate vicinity around RS, 23 in the immediate vicinity around Crowell, and about 5-10 from elsewhere, and then there is a pretty good chance that about half of those are people who used to live in or around one of the two areas.

2007 RS was a very well coached, talented, gunslinging group of boys. They were fast, they were disciplined, they were everything you could ever want in a six man team. And they had (arguably) the greatest player to ever step on a football field. (Only arguable if you are NOT from RS).....

2014 Crowell is a very well coached, talented gunslinging group of men. They are fast, they are disciplined (most of them anyways), and just about everything you could ever want in a six man team. And they have one of the greatest players to ever step on a football field....... (quick story: Saturday night, I was standing on the Ira sideline. A ball was thrown by ira and it went out of the back of the endzone, Parsley runs and grabs the ball and since another ball was already thrown in from the ira sideline, he looks over to the sideline for the ball boy. Spots him and tosses the ball to him, on the run about 45 yards away. That no thinking, effortless throw of 45 yards went over my head (i'm 6'4")by about 12 inches, over the head of the photographer standing next to me by about 6 inches and hit the 4'2" ball boy in the numbers, i was impressed)

Coaching: RS
Overall talent: Crowell
Top tiered players: Crowell
Best player: Tied
Speed: RS
Size: Crowell
Defense: RS
Offense: Crowell
Special teams: RS
Discipline: RS
Heart: RS
Passing: RS
Rushing: Crowell
So, in conclusion. I think the winner of this fantasy game would be a toss up. If played 10 times, I think it could easily be 5-5. If played 5 times, I would pick RS to be 3-2. Only because of heart and discipline.

I watched RS win the title in 07 and they were good maybe even great. I watched Crowell play at state last year and against Ira this year and Crowell is loaded with monsters they would kill RS.

I don't know that Crowell would kill Richland Springs but I think they would win a very high scoring affair. I mean honestly, do you really think Crowell could stop TE and his gang? Does anyone think RS could stop Parsley and Co.? Just my two cents for what it's worth.

I always like when we flash back on teams and players that have made impactful careers or seasons.

And for any team to be talked about in the conversations of being the greatest or at the top of the great teams is a compliment.

Rest assured my opinion is know more valuable than the man behind the counter at Allsups, but I have enjoyed many good teams and games over my years.

2007 Richland Springs team would win the game in my opinion 90 something to 50 something. I agree with Schwarzenegger, valid points. Happy Spread Back Darius Kimbrough was a man among boys, Colby White Northside team was big, fast and very talented, and Rule (Back to Back Track Champions, State Basketball tournament, Back to Back State Games) all those teams were far from a one man show and fell victim to RS by major margins.

2014 Crowell team will win their 2nd straight title with ease. #2 Ira was missing 2 starters and another injured and wasn't at full strength team. Part of it though, hate to hold that against Crowell. But this year there isn't a team that is a cut above in a year that the only team that seems to be is the Wildcats. Thus, making it seem like they are more dominate than previous years teams. I actually think the 2013 team is better than this years current team. I haven't seen but 1 game to this season.

Yes Crowell is talented and are deserving of being in the hypothetical matchups.

2007 Richland Springs Team
2012 Throckmorton Team
2005 Throckmorton Team
2006 Richland Springs Team
2002 Calvert Team
2013 Crowell Team
2010 Garden City Team
2003 Strawn Team
2002 Sanderson Team
2005 Rule Football Team

That was fun trip down memory lane.

Good luck to all the teams thus far, and to the ones continuing to play.

Yeah, and I bet some of the old codgers on this board could think of several teams from the 80's that neither of these two teams could stand a chance against! That's the reason we have imaginations to think and remember the greats of the past.

With the wussification of Football, I'm not sure there are any current team that could trump a descent team of old.

You can thank society for that!

Well when Ira had Morris in the game (before he was hurt) their defense was not bad and made Crowell work for the yards they got. Morris is a stud, the rest of the defense might be average. Richland's defense didn't have an "average" player on it. No doubt Crowell would score, but I do think they would be stopped. Crowell had trouble stopping Morris in the spread the first half, they would have him pinned down they thought and the next thing you know he would break loose. Morris didn't have much help, ET had a ton of help. I'm going to say RS takes it away because of ET ability and the help he had along with it. No doubt crowell is a strong and powerful team, just not strong enough to beat THAT RS team

Roddy Maddox would have had nightmares over playing teams that ran really good spread offenses.
bet he could figure out something............. Roddy firmly believes that 3 things can happen when you pass............. and 2 of them are bad.......

Yep. And the older we get, the better we were!

Just remember, if you can, how totally dominating the Rule teams of 2006 and 2007 were, up until the State Championship Games. They had speed and toughness to burn.

And then they hit the wall....TE and company.

RS '07 - 90
Crowell '14 - 48
