White Deer v Follett - Cancelled Due to Lighning

Leman Saunders

Six-man expert
Game of the week was cancelled with seconds left in the 2nd quarter due to lightning after a very long delay

Follett was ahead 24-14 at the time...

Game officially goes down as no game played...so therefore by proxy White Deer still hasn't allowed any points scored on the season!

The points were scored... we will all know for all time that it actually happened.. and Leman is an enabler of the books! But yes.. I do understand the intricacies of the books moving forward.. and how other games have been put down in similar situations. Difficult separation, but if you KNOW.. you can't keep the White Deer scoreless streak going!

Cancelled game officially means that White Deer doesnt lose the point on Granger's toy either... so they remain in the top 5 even though it is clear they were heading for a loss?

nope nope nope.

No one can tell the future and a 10 point game right before half...who knows what would happen! I saw a team up 38 at halftime get beat before...and if I recall the 1996 state game had a big 2nd half comeback too...so if the 1996 state game was to be called at halftime due to weather I guess Whitharral should have been crowned state champs then!?!?

Cancelled game is the same as if it was never started...it's that cut and dry...I welcome anyone to go find any six-man school who has shut out their first 5 opponents to start a season...it doesnt matter the strength of the schedule it is still extremely hard to do.

Indeed it is hard, I am very impressed... and no I have not been able to find another instance on the LSFN database either of starting a season like that.... but I am saying it has to stop here historically. If they go 2 more games without allowing a point, it will not be a 7 game streak to start a season without allowing a point.

I disagree I think the weak schedule has everything to do with it they played a good but down from the last several years follett team and gave up 24 in pretty much a quarter of football . Hart lefors groom and kress get 45ed and shut out every week by every team just my opinion

sorry the streak is intact!...as weird as that is!

and I disagree, so many schools have played equally if not weaker schedules (motley co aint weak by the way) since 1936 and still I say find me some team that has done it before...best Ive found is four straight to open a season. It aint easy no matter who you play, history proves that point

Your troll skills were decent until this. Never get overanxious, grasshopper. It makes you look weak. And desperate.

So here’s a question. I saw that the Canadian game was called in the third due to weather but it’s result appears to be official. Is this because it went past halftime?

I do understand that since it wasn't a complete game that the stats can't be counted. However, I do think that those who were not there need to understand what was going on at the time the boys were called off the field due to lightning with :43 seconds left in the first half. The game was finally called at 11:30 pm by administration of both schools.

Christian Barber had a 32 yard TD called back due to a holding penalty in addition to a fumble the Panthers had on the 4 yard line. While neither resulted in points, it's not like the Buck defense was able to stop Follett.

Yes, many teams have come back after half time and pulled out a victory, as Follett did that to Southland in the 2015 playoffs down 24 points at half.

I felt it needed to be noted that the Panthers could've easily been going in 36-14 (or 40-14) and I know it's a would've, could've kind of statement. I would also like to add that the White Deer coaching staff along with the players were chanting "Get #3" before kickoff (for those who don't know, #3 is Christian Barber). Now I know that can be misconstrued or maybe even misinterpreted...but it doesn't look good to those who heard it.
Maybe we are a little sensitive to that statement as Christian was in a terrible car accident this past summer and we weren't even sure he would even get to play football.

It was a dominating performance by the Panthers who scored on their very first offensive series. While what White Deer did the games before coming in was impressive, the Bucks couldn't stop the Follett offense. Even if the game wasn't completely in control at the time it was called, it should be noted that the Panthers scored on White Deer and rather easily at that.

I think White Deer will have a hard time even making the playoffs....as both Happy and McLean are formidable opponents.

My understanding is that White Deer is going to take a knee on the first play and allow Whiteface to score, so this will be for naught
