I got a message from a friend of mine today. Pawnee JH (Bee County, on SH 72 between Karnes City and Three Rivers) started up their JH football program again after a 38 year absence.
This Saturday, October 7th, the school had scheduled their first-in-38-years homecoming game, but a day or so ago, the opponent cancelled the game. (again -- note this is a junior high team; Pawnee is a PK-8 school district and the kids go to surrounding communities like Beeville, Kenedy, and Three Rivers for high school). They'd like to play around 10 am, but I'm sure they can be a bit flexible on the time.
The school has alumni coming, a pancake breakfast, unveiling of their new mascot, a well-known local PA announcer to call the game, and all sorts of things. Except an opponent.
The folks at Pawnee are willing to provide a meal to an opposing team and if the school is from a hurricane hit area, they are willing to make a donation to the school ... although I'm thinking Harvey spent a little time in their neighborhood spinning around deciding the best route to Houston first...
Anyway, if anyone can help them, please call the school principal, Michelle at 210-416-7784.
Thanks!
