Six man to eleven man

STANTON - Stanton's Landon Burkhart named was awarded the Week 3 3A Ford Built Tough Player of the Week.

Prior to playing for Stanton, Landon played at Richland Springs, a six-man team. In only his third game on an eleven-man team, Landon ran the ball 16 times for 330 yards, an average of 20.6 yards per carry. 267 of those yards came in the second half on only 9 carries, including touchdown runs of 72, 51, and 65 yards. He also threw for another 89 yards, 1 touchdown, and a 2-point conversion. He had multiple first down conversions on 3rd and long and 4th down. Landon’s father, Jerry Burkhart, is the Head Coach.

“Landon played with a fever and sore throat and helped the Buffaloes get 35-21 win. He also helped his father, Jerry (a six-man coaching legend) earn his first win in 11-man football. We were down 15-7 going into the second half when Landon put the offense on his back and carried us to a victory. In the second half, he rushed for 267 yards on 9 carries with three of those being touchdown runs of 72, 51, and 65 yards. This is only Landon’s third game playing 11-man football, he grew up in 6-man and just came to us this past spring”. – Coach Cody Hogan He also was named Area Player of the week.
Miss seeing all of you.

This is also a 1-4 Stanton team who beat an 0-4 Forsans team. I'm not trying to be ugly about a players accomplishments but this six man story is not a good one to shed light on. Hopefully they can get things turned around in Stanton but as of right now that team needs all the help it can get.
