It's been a while boys...hope everyone is well. Our family is proud to announce the 1st six man classic in Amarillo. It will be held at the 7,000 seat ThunderHeads Stadium in Amarillo. Our match up will feature 2 games. State ranked Happy will battle Kress at 6 and Miami and Lefors are slated following. The games will be played September 18th.

The baseball season is coming to an end in Amarillo in the next few weeks, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be use for at least one local baseball field.
On Sept. 18, ThunderHeads Stadium, home of the Amarillo ThunderHeads, will host the Six-man Classic doubleheader, featuring four area schools playing Six-man football in a baseball facility.
The games will start at 6 p.m. with Happy facing Kress followed by Lefors taking on Miami at 8 p.m. Admission for the two games is $5.
“We are excited to do something that hasn’t been done in Amarillo before,” said Stephanie Tucker, the general manager of the ThunderHeads and the Amarillo Venom indoor football team. “We’re going to bring Six-man football to a baseball field. We want to make it a two-day classic.”
To start with, though, it will be only one day this year. And it will be a unique experience for all those involved.
ThunderHeads Stadium is a neutral site for all four teams, who will all share the novelty of playing in a baseball stadium. First-year Lefors coach Derek Schlieve says it’s all about adapting.
“For our guys to accomplish the goals they want to accomplish, they’re going to have to play on fields that have been adjusted,” Schlieve said. “That’s what we’re going to see in the playoffs.”
It means things fans don’t normally think about, like players dressing in lockerrooms designed for baseball.
“We’ve got to get there early to get used to that environment,” Happy coach Tye Keith said. “We’re still playing on grass. The field will be the usual specifications.”
For those who live in Amarillo, the night is a rare opportunity to see Six-man football up close and personal, without having to drive at least a half-hour for a game.
Tucker says the doubleheader isn’t a novelty. She’s hoping to expand Amarillo’s athletic menu starting with Six-man football.
“From the get-go the goal was to show the talent in all our sports,” Tucker said.
“It’s just an opportunity to use the facility for something that it’s never been used for before.”
