Not bad coaching for a guy who gets bills sent to "The Estate of Bruce Hall."

SAN MARCOS — The SMACC Panthers were picked to lose last Friday’s opener against the Temple CenTex Chargers by 45 points.
Apparently, though, head coach Bruce Hall and company had something different in mind, as the Panthers held off the Chargers at home, picking up a 38-24 victory to kick off their second six-man season in triumphant fashion.
“My returning players did a great job (Friday),” Hall said. “They were ready and showed their stuff to a very well-prepared team.
“I’m proud of my new players. This was their first game and even though they were a bit hesitant, they stepped up and played well.”
The first half was primarily a defensive battle, although Taylor Robertson managed to score the first touchdown of the year for SMACC on a short run in the second quarter.
The Panthers then recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff, cashing in on a pass from Andrew Hall to Jacob Neffendorf to go into halftime up 12-6.
SMACC saw Robertson add another touchdown run in the second half, with Matt Chapman providing three scores of his own — two on the ground and one on a pass from Hall.
Defensively, Hall also led the way with 21 tackles, while Adam Bryant batted down a pair of passes in the end zone to help keep the Chargers at bay.
The Panthers will now host Stephenville Faith at 7:30 p.m. Friday night at the CFPO fields in San Marcos.
