Quarterfinal Matchups

Yes I know I am getting ahead of myself, but before the season even started, I was tracking the playoff matchups in an excel spread sheet. Right now this is what I have.... and all but one game seems to be set in stone.

D1
Happy vs. Borden County
Ira vs. Crowell
May vs. Gordon
Blum vs. Abbott

D2
Follett vs. Groom
Balmorhea vs. Buena Vista ?
Guthrie vs. Throckmorton
Richland Springs vs. Calvert

Beyond that... I can see most any of these games going either way...
Thoughts?

I wouldn't pick the quarterfinals any different. The only thing that can't be anticipated is the injuries on each team. The depth on some of these teams are thin enough to cause problems down the road. That could keep one or two of these teams from making the quarterfinals.

The last 8 in each division all make for good games... I cant remember the last time you could see a lineup, like that where you can see the stage set, and not know the outcome before hand... should be FUN!

You gotta love it when people get way ahead of themselves....going to make for some dissapointed folks. Didnt Gordon get beat by a BAD Savoy team last year? Just sayin.... I wouldnt look past a Zephyr (when healthy they are big and physical and will be tough), Santa Anna (the surprise team of the area), or Rochelle (who has the best athlete Ive seen this year). Nothing is set just yet and all your doing is providing some extra motivation for these and other teams...Im sure the coaches appreciate that!

I am certainly not overlooking Newcastle or Zephyr or Santa Anna/Rochelle .... and yes Gordon dropped the ball last year against Savoy.. but that was a crazy game too...95 times out of 100 there would be a different result... but not taking away at all from what Savoy did last year. Strawn was surprised by Newcastle last year the second time they met... but Gordon will be prepared

It is hard to beat a good team twice in the same year especially when you beat that team early in the season. Don't remember the year (got the sometimes disease) but Throckmorton beat Garden City at Hick to start the season then met them again in the semis or quarters and the outcome was not the same

May played Newcastle in district then again in semi finals in 1984....May won the first game 52-6 and the second 52-7 ....so it's not all that hard to do....if Gordon makes it to a rematch with May in qtr finals I don't expect May to 45'em but they will win the game
