NIL expansion in College Football

Only caught part of this on the radio the other day. UT San Antonio is a member of the American Athletic Conference, which includes 14 schools including Army, Navy, Rice, North Texas, Tulsa and others.

One of the schools is Memphis, and it was just announced that FedEx is doing a $25 million NIL program with Memphis and how that could affect the competitive structure of the league.

But as Nick Saban said the other day on ESPN, it's not paying $20 million to players that's the issue, it's paying the $20 million to the right players.

All that NIL money will find a home with the best or most marketable(attractive) athletes across the sports spectrum. Great example is the female gymnast at LSU and the twin sisters playing basketball at Miami U. Being knock dead gorgeous opens the purse strings. Some of the SEC pundits were discussing how the SEC schools will have a huge disadvantage with NIL opportunties compared to Texas when they compared the wealth of sponsors or potential sponsors for NIL deals. Austin is the home to several top 100 companies (DELL, Tesla) while most SEC towns have a few car dealerships lining up to sponsor. Miami U got out the NIL gate fast and their NIL sponsors have outspent every other school to date. Their recruiting has shown the results. Poor ole Oklahoma is at the back of pack. Seems like the proliferation of NIL deals caught them flat footed and their football players are wondering where their larger share is? They were used to being the best paid. Lol. How the worm has turned.
