I am your new Boys PE teacher and head FB Coach! #WeWinBig
Jody Burnett is a successful Texas High School Football coach. He's a relationship builder with a true
heart for his student-athletes. Coach Burnett's family-like approach to his team has produced results.
Under his guidance, his programs have earned trips to the state playoffs, all-star game appearances, as
well as, all-district and all-state nominations for his football family members each season. Coach Jody
Burnett, a winner with a 72% won/loss record and a proven builder of men; would be a great asset to
your high school's football program.
One of Burnett’s successes to date was leading the turnaround of the River City Believers Academy
football program. In 2013, his dedication to the game, players, families and the community landed him
a spot with River City Believers Academy in Selma, Texas. Prior to Burnett taking the head coaching and
offensive coordinator duties, River City had been a perennial 1-8 finisher. After one year with Coach
Burnett at the helm, the team improved to 6-4; earning the team a trip to the TAPPS state playoffs.
Additionally, for the first time in school history, several student athletes were named to the all-district
and all-state teams. Burnett himself was even nominated for Coach of the Year consideration for his
TAPPS district and by LoneStarGridiron.com . For TAPPS, he finished second in the running for Coach of
the Year. In the LoneStarGridiron.com voting Burnett was the only private school, six man coach, to be
nominated. An important footnote to this success, is the fact that Coach Burnett lead this turn around
with a staff consisting of himself and one part time assistant coach.
Another notable successes to date for Coach Burnett was being nominated and selected to head coach
the Greater San Antonio Area Youth Future Stars 11U East Team. His selection was based on his
outstanding leadership and character. He led some of the top 11 year old youth all-stars from the San
Antonio, Texas area.
Heading into the Spring 2015 season, Burnett will be returning to his youth coaching roots to assume
the Defensive Coordinator duties of the Cibolo Spartans. During the fall 2014 season, Burnett’s defense
held opponents to a 14.4 points per game average; recording two shutouts along the way to a 5-2
regular season record. The post season was also favorable to Coach Burnett where the Spartans went
on to win the first ever Texas Select Thanksgiving Bowl game 13-12 over the Gonzales Apaches.
Always a student of the game, Burnett has prepared for the upcoming season by spending quality time
with University of the Incarnate Word Running Backs Coach Michael Briglin and picking the brain of the
staff at Texas Lutheran University and East Texas Baptist University. Coach Burnett was recently invited
to the Valero Alamo Bowl practice with the UCLA Bruins. Burnett recently gained permission to attend
spring football practices of UCLA, TLU, UIW, UTSA, East Texas Baptist University and Texas 6A high
school power house Cibolo Steele High School. All these staffs have welcomed the hard working and
passionate Coach Burnett to come out - to participate, learn and grow in the game of football.
Burnett’s coaching career did not start like many. Instead his coaching career started in the Information
Technology field where he worked for several sports minded businesses and large military contractors.
Some of the projects Burnett worked on were the precursors to commercial products like HUDL and GameFilm360.com. Working with the sports software, reignited Burnett’s passion for the game and his
desire to coach and mentor young athletes.
Coach Jody Burnett is a strong man of faith. He has been married to Suzanne for 19 years. While
raising his own five children, Burnett has coached every season – producing results that were seen in
favorable won-loss records and found in the athletes he coached, who were growing in their knowledge
and love of the game.
Burnett has earned his Associates degree in Business Data Processing from Lamar University. He is
currently working to complete his Bachelors of Applied Arts and Science degree from Lamar University.
Burnett also holds various computer related certifications, in both technology and project management.
His athletic career includes playing high school football, baseball and track. During his baseball playing
days, Burnett was an All-Star caliber player – participating on a state playoff team.
Burnett is a member of the USA Football Coaches Association, the American Football Coaches
Association and the Texas High School Coaches Association.
