Bikini girls are enjoying media blitz

In case you're wondering, and clearly a lot of you are, it sounds like Lambeau Field's bikini girls are willing to pose for racy Maxim magazine.

"But if they ask us to take off any more, we'll definitely say no. We're not afraid to draw the line," said Jen, 22, who was busy writing up a bio for the magazine when I called Tuesday.

These are wholesome Wisconsin bikini girls.

Jen and her sister, Ashley, 20, and cousin Liz, 21, caused a sensation by stripping to their matching yellow bikini tops in the stands at Sunday's otherwise depressing championship game. TV captured the moment, prompting bundled-up announcer Troy Aikman to remark, "It makes me feel like a sissy."

The next thing you know, Maxim comes calling, along with Inside Edition, Good Morning America, and various local media. The young women have been in Sports Illustrated and on ESPN in the past. The Internet is buzzing about the bikini girls, which is what they call themselves on the signs they hold up to cheer on the Packers.

"It's actually kind of exciting. We've done this for six years and never had any interest except for the fans around us," said Jen, a senior in marketing at UW-La Crosse. Ashley and Liz both go to UWM and are in business and marketing.

"It's been a crazy couple days," Liz said, adding they knew something big might happen when friends started texting them during the game to say they were on national television.

We're leaving their last names out of this to discourage attention of the unwanted variety. Jen and Ashley are from Mauston; Liz is from Wausau.

The girls pick the coldest home game of the year, and they wear their bikini tops under heavy coats. From the waist down they're like any other fans in snow pants and long underwear.

During breaks in the action, time-outs and such, the girls whip off their coats and jump around with their sign, hoping to attract a TV camera or at least get on the Jumbotron. Fans in Section 126, especially guys, seem to go for it. Ashley said two "little ladies" in the seats behind them always hold their coats during the bikini outbursts.

The girls' seats are 10 rows behind the Packers bench. "A couple of them turn around and take notice. We wouldn't mind Brett Favre calling us up," Jen said.

Lambeau has always had its share of fans, especially drunk and big-bellied ones, who expose skin in frigid weather. The bikini girls have become their own franchise, and the beer-gut guys ask to pose with them for photos.

Pat, father to Jen and Ashley, goes along to the games. He remembers the first time the girls went wild.

"Jen said, 'Do you mind if we take our clothes off? We've got our bikinis underneath. Mom said it was OK.' "

They didn't want him to lose his four season tickets - two that he had inherited from his father, and two that he spent 32 years on the waiting list to get.

"They're just having fun," he said. "It's kind of a tradition."

And they're even making a little money. Inside Edition gave each girl $250 for telling their story via satellite Monday night. It's not clear how much Maxim pays.

Pat said only half in jest that he might contact the Packers pro shop to see if they want to sell the bikini tops like those the girls wear. The not-too-revealing yellow ones were purchased elsewhere by Jen and Ashley's mother, and they sewed Packer G's on the front.

The girls swear they weren't cold in their beachwear in the subzero weather Sunday, and they say they are completely sober at the games. If they look tan, it's because they all spent part of the holiday break in sunny, warm places.

The bikini girls all have boyfriends, and Liz said they don't seem to mind that they're bringing sexy back to Lambeau. "They're like, 'Did you see that girl? It's my girlfriend,' " she said.

It's their 15 minutes of fame - 10 with the wind chill.
