Hayden Fry -Passes Away

Leman Saunders

Six-man expert
While he is remembered as one of the best college football coaches, he does have a tie into the 6man world.

When WW2 broke out six-man football was the fastest growing sport in American, the military adopted the game into their training and companies had teams and played championships. This continued into the 1950s.

Hayden Fry coached one of these six-man teams in 1952:

I"n 1952, Fry joined the Marines, serving until 1955. During his service, he coached a six-man football team, an experience that helped him develop innovative new creative schemes"

I was in the Mustang band at SMU from 65-68 and then, off to Nam. I got to see Jerry LeVias play coached by Coach Fry. Hayden Fry was quite a coach.
