DCTF March Madness: Greatest Texas high school football player bracket
We love March Madness, but we also miss football, so we decided to go big and create an entertaining bracket of our own.
by Texas Football Staff.
TXHSFBMarchMadness
"Welcome to our version of March Madness, where we pit 64 of the state’s greatest players against each other in a battle to determine whose resumé stacks up best vs. the rest.
There are four regions, named after the state’s high school coaching giants, with players randomly assigned, regardless of geography, class size or era.
This is a free-for-all.
We’ll update the bracket throughout the next two weeks, and remind you to vote with the advancement to each round, with the winner announced on Monday, March 28 on DCTF Live at noon.
Selection Committee Notes:
1. These rankings and assignments were determined purely on the high school performance of the players included, with as little weight attributed to their post-high school careers as possible (though it can admittedly be hard to account for such factors).
2. The committee acknowledges there are not nearly enough offensive linemen or defensive players included. This was not a case of dismissive neglect, but rather, admitting that it’s difficult to size up those careers for comparison to players with sizable common statistical resumés.
3. There were “bubble” players that got left out, and while it was hard for the committee to leave those players on the outside looking in, we’re confident those players, while great, would not have challenged for a title.
You can head to each region below to see the players, match-ups, and cast your vote in each game."
REGIONS: Gordon Wood (I) / D.W. Rutledge (II) / Pete Shotwell (III) / G.A. Moore (IV).
