Wow! Coach Gaines is truly one of the real gentleman in Football. Letting Billy Bob portray him in Friday Night Lights was a real crime. Having worked for him I can honestly say that there are few people I respect more. His record at Central was 14-28 but trust me if you saw what he had to work with it's amazing they won 14 games. I saw him two years ago at a game sitting in the stands watching one of his Lubbock schools play. Not many AD's would have made the trip and then just sat in the stands instead of being in the pressbox. He has always been very unassuming.

You are correct about Coach Gaines. His record as HC at Abilene High was not very good as far as wins and losses but he very muchly laid ground work that turned the Eagle program around.
He may do well or he may fall flat of his face at Permian. Only time will tell. I suspect he will do well and I certainly want to see him do well.

Maybe he'll resurrect the Wing-T at Permian. If Morton runs his Wishbone at Lee, we could in for some old fashioned power football.

Didn't Gaines coach the last coach at Permian, Darren Alleman (Sp?)
