Funny randomness, I got banned from another site

Some of you may find this hysterical, but I was banned from another message board yesterday. I posted a question wondering if anyone knew what happened to a particular student-athlete since I knew she was traveling to California to compete, but never showed in the results and she didn't compete with her team in Texas this weekend....

Today I logged in and my post was deleted with a note saying I was banned for "Impersonating another person/forum member". The ban is for TWO YEARS! I did not receive an e-mail or anything. There's a link to protest the ruling, so I filled out the form, which included my real name and e-mail and reasons I was legitimately asking. I also asked who the heck they thought I was impersonating.

It's been two hours and I am still waiting. I wonder what will happen. It is also not like this forum is super strict. They let all sorts of bad takes and crazy conspiracies linger. I was just asking a question.

Still not back on the site. I will add one thing. The ban for more than two years. I am suspended from posting until Nov 10 2026! My favorite part may be that despite being banned with my username, I am still allowed to post anonymously. I can just make up some random name and use it. Color me confused.

Hi Granger.

I don't find it hysterical but, I'm not sure how to say it, funky, weird? Sounds like the site is a little whacky, loosely controlled.

I'm a moderator on another site that is history related. There was already a warning system set up there when I started If someone is very rude, vulgar, personally insults or mocks another member, among other things they get a 10-point, 1 day suspension from posting. That can be adjusted up by a moderator depending on severity. Points double for repeat offenses in a 30 day period. They can progress, in one case up to 186 days, after vulgarly insulting other members, moderators and administrators. Banning permanently is up to administrators.

Maybe it's a case of mistaken identification by someone there, otherwise it sounds kind of ridiculous.

Just got an e-mail. It appears that someone was spamming the site about the same kid and mine got lumped in with them by a moderator. The main moderator apologized and reinstated me. I think he saw my posts and realized I am basically a dork.

What I found so strange about being banned is people say horrible stuff about coaches and players and a good chunk of it stands (sound familiar? LOL), while my post was a question asking if a kid was sick or injured. I understand if there was some HIPPA issue, but I certainly wasn't impersonating anyone.
