Forfeited/Cancelled/Sub Varsity Games & Stats

Just to be clear...or not clear at all...

If a game is forfeited or cancelled after the game has started...no stats can be counted toward season totals from that game. Examples: White Deer and Follett stats from the game they attempted last week are not counted. Tioga and THESA stats are not counted as it was a forfeited game. Same with stats from the Marfa v Dell City game a few weeks back

Also...
This one is a bit more confusing, but my understanding talking to UIL officials and a few coaches...

In the same area, games that are considered sub-varsity games...Guthrie's last few game are the perfect example...those stats can not count toward varsity season totals either. Knox City and Rule accepted a varsity forfeit and played Guthrie in a sub-varsity game. Thus the stats for Knox City and Rule should not counted toward their varsity season totals. (also Rule varsity was awarded a win by forfeit and thus their sub varsity lost to Guthrie's sub varsity....none of that matters for Granger's ranking system, but it does matter in official records)

Many people do not understand these subtleties in the rules and how these games are treated which leads to inaccurate records

The Sixman anomaly... because if a 2A team... say Dublin ... plays a higher classification JV team.. like Stephenville JV... the Dublin coach takes a win or loss and his varsity kids stats still count forward. These are normally scheduled games though because 11-Man rarely just cancels a game because of lack of kids or plays as a JV because they need to use ineligible kids like Guthrie.

Leman,

What if you have a team call the game and that team is behind? For example in 2013 while coaching at Carrollton Christian we played at Forestburg, they suited up 7 guys for the game. It was early in the 4th quarter an we were leading 52-46, and they had their second player go down with an injury. Coach Tuckwell told me that they would not finish the game since they only five, and one of the five was cramping really bad. I didn't at the time nor I do now consider it as a forfeit since we were winning the game when we stopped playing.

So my question is, it that considered a forfeited game if the team that is behind stops the game? If not would the stats from that game count?

I’ll post my question from the other thread here for you Leman maybe you can asnwer it. Does a game have to go at least a half to count? I saw a 3A game was also called due to weather this week but was in the third quarter but it counted. So what’s the difference? Just that one was in the second half and the other wasn’t?

If both schools agree to count it as an official game then it counts...example would be the Campbell v Fannindel game this year which was called early in the 4th.

If it is due to weather or something out of the teams/players control and they cant come to an agreement and no makeup scheduled then it is a cancelled game (Highland v Motley Co a few years back)

I dont know if there is an official rule as to how long the game has to go...Im sure there is a coach or ref out there that knows the answer to that, my assumption has always been it has to go past halftime and both parties must agree on the outcome. Which it's a loss either way USUALLY for the team that wants to stop it early... Exceptions would be this year with the Lazbuddie game and the Tioga game. Lazbuddie had to forfeit bc of injuries and couldnt continue and they were way ahead on the scoreboard...Tioga...well we know what happened there

If yall agreed to call it a game then that would not be a forfeit

Halftime is certainly the defining factor for district games. But at that point everyone must be varsity eligible. There really is no true definition for non-district games, as they are all basically just exhibition games. When Bronte (11-Man) played Robert Lee (6-Man) the score was posted and records kept for both coaches. When Gordon played Powers, Oregon, we played one half of sixman and one half of 8 man, and that loss went on Nelson Campbell's record. Both were considered Varsity teams, but nothing about it applied to UIL rules.

Only counter to that would be games played in the state of Texas involving a UIL school are subject to UIL rules and game reports still have to be filed (at least that's what Ive been told)

Again those games are different animals to what we are talking about here...more a sub-topic from the original topic

Leman and Granger... what surpries me is that coaches put any weight into what we think about this type stuff.. lol. How does the Sixman Coaches Association not have clearly defined procedure for this type stuff already?
