Was reading earlier and it made me think back...

My 1st job was Head Football at Cranfills Gap...The following is a list of coaches that I faced in my first year...Some of you old timers may understand this list better than the young guys..

Gordon-Nelson Campbell
Morgan-Robert Holt
Gustine-Robert Lee
Oglesby-Ray Martin
Walnut Springs-Lonnie Flippen
Jonesboro-Larry Pruitt

Pretty well know group in the six man ranks...

Mine was at Mullin.

Schedule was:

Brownwood Victory Life - Coach Kirby Rasco
Strawn - Coach Dwaine Lee
Star - Coach Derrick Jones
Rising Star - Coach Clint Lowry
Lohn - Coach Michael Luckey
Brookesmith - Coach Phillips
Richland Springs - Coach Jerry Burkhart
Cherokee - Cant remember head coach

lost to Lee, Lowry, Burkhart, Cherokee

Here are a few from my first year (in sixman, that is):
Grandfalls -- Joe Helms

Ft. Hancock -- Danny Medina
El Paso Faith -- Hosea Stredic
Garden City -- Matt Odom
Rankin -- Shannen Williams

Took it on the chin from all of the above, and learned a lot.

1986, Gordon's first meeting against Cranfills Gap, and Gordon's only loss to Gap historically. Gap went 8-2, the only 8 win season since 1948, and only second ever. Gordon hired him as an assistant following that season I believe.

Check the 1970 season. Gap was, I think, undefeated going into the bi-district game with Carbon. They lost that game by about a TD.

Good catch, but they were not undefeated, they were 9-1, having lost to Oglesby in week 3 ... 25-24. Lost in bi-district to Carbon 38-21. So that is the most wins they ever had.
