The paragraph below was written by Hermleigh head coach Heath Gibson:
On August 20, 2014 Hermleigh ISD lost a student in a single-car crash. Joshua Gilbert, a 13-year old eighth grader, died in the accident. Josh participated in many junior high sports at Hermleigh, including football, where he played quarterback. He was such a kind hearted and polite kid that never missed an opportunity to say hello while passing down the hallways. Josh's two older brothers, Jacob who is a junior and Douglas who is a senior, both play high school football. It has been a difficult time here at our small school to say the least. Josh's grandmother teaches elementary science, his grandfather is the announcer for all of our home football games (including junior high) and his aunt teaches high school english. Although the community has struggled to deal with this tragedy, I am proud to say that many teachers, parents and former students have stepped in to help the Gilbert family with many of their needs. This loss we have suffered has left a wound that will certainly not heal quickly. However, our close-knit community will stay strong and be there for each other in this time of grieving.

Thank you,

Heath Gibson
