Would be curious to know who y'all think are be sleeper teams in Division 1 that could pop up and surprise people and possibly make a good playoff run.
Here are my thoughts:
Gorman: After a solid first year they are now in a district. They are country strong yet fast. They are well coached by Coach Williamson. Could make a run if everything falls into place.
Neuces Canyon: This team will go as far as their QB will take them. He is extremely athletic for a smaller player. If they can adjust from their move from 11-man quickly they could surprise people and make a run.
High Island: After reading Texas Football and talking to some folks, the Cardinals could be the team that shocks the six-man community this year. Yes they lose the Knipe kid, but could actually be stronger and better this year. The key is can they fix their leaky defense? They have some very good defensive players, namely the Rodriguez kid who is a flat stud at LB. Also, they have another JR at DE in the Meyers kid who has great size and strength. They have some solid parts on defense to get it right and shut some folks down. Offensively, it's centered around the districts pre-season Offensive MVP in Bronkhorst. He is a legit dual-threat QB who should be making the move to SB this year. Bronkhorst has some very good pieces on offense that he will be surrounded with, especially WR Marvin. A mid-season game vs Richland Speings will be telling as to how good they really are.
What say you...
