D1 Top 10 Strenghts & Weakness

What is opinion on the each of the following D1 teams best strengths and worst weaknesses as they make their push to a State Title run?

1. Happy
2. Borden County
3. Jonesboro
4. Garden City
5. May
6. Ira
7. Sterling City
8. Union Hill
9. Meadow
10. Zephyr

Jonesboro's biggest weakness depends on the injury to #3. Hope he returns asap.
Their slow run defense on the edges by their Corners, and inability to get off seal-blocks can be exploited. Their lineman have to learn to grab the seal blocker and throw them off before the chop is thrown. But the biggest issue is their Spread (Pitch-Pass) defense.
Against Zephyr several times the Eagle defense sent four rushers to the DeepBack. Coach Williams punished this error with simple short passes and dumps. Short completions and long runs were accomplished against two players to cover middle, flats and deep. When three rushers attacked, the dumps were deadly. A decent pitch-pass offense will eat them up. Better fix that.

Offensively, no evidence of a screen game. And think of using #26 as a decoy. Wow.
And if Robuck is given a pitch with just one backfield edge-block, he will run for a week. The boy can find daylight!! That would make their offense four TD's stronger.

Disclaimer: I may have been slightly distracted by a second rough and tumble struggle on the sideline in front of the concession stand. The little Eagles have several future studs down in the lower grades that catch my eyes every time I attend .

No clue about May. I do know their flag team and third and fourth grades football teams were hardcore.

From what I saw at our game against Happy is them some BIG ole boys that all have a decent set of wheels!! Most of the starters went both ways and there was like 160+ points scored in that game with it ending early and I never seen a Cowboy cramp up. They did an amazing job of covering the best passing game in sixman this year. Their run defense is all there also!!!

Early in the season I had BC winning it all in D1, but I change my vote to Happy. I'm figuring they plow throught the west side of the bracket and have fun at AT&T this year. I've been wrong before though...............

As for the rest of the contenders I wish you the best of luck.

Kinda early to make a list like that doncha think? I seem to think a few more teams are "making a push to a state title run" than you have listed there.....

Not as much hardcore....just Super Bowl champs.

I think hardcore is a better description than Super Bowl. If their games had been high school, it would have been more of a Bi-district level game.

Coach Steele's boy is tough. A close friend described little Steele as the best overall player in the entire league, all age groups. And that opinion was not...I repeat was not from Coach Steele, himself.
They had some hitters. Hardcore, baby. Sorry mom, they can always be your babies.

Jonesboro strengths:

They have a stellar LOS blocking team, specifically for the sweeps and off-tackle plays. Their blocks are strong and long. They have zero doubt who to contact with their blocks. But they're not what I would describe as crushing blockers. They don't dominate the defense with sheer brute force, but they stay in the face of the defense better than almost everyone except RS.
If they want to totally dominate the defense, I hope to see them finish with cutting defenders down to the ground. Dang good regardless.
Their pass defense is very thorough, too. Give up the middle sometimes vs Pitch Pass offense.
They never appear to display fatigue. Maybe against Milford last year, but that is rare.

Their kicking game is well advanced. PAT's are excellent, again, and the kickoffs are placed beautifully into the corners. Short kicks are not affective consistently.
The Eagles are solid. To lose before state they will have to beat themselves, as in the RS game last year.
So bundle up Eagles. It's about wearing layers in cold weather, not machismo. That junk will get you knocked out too early.

Who would win the game between,....... the 2015 Jones vs. the 2016 Jones?

Mr. Bill,
You'll have to decide that for yourself, and since you asked it I am sure you already have. (:
Its key to realize they have a much easier path this alignment.

You misunderstood....they are not mine. Mine are older....that was just pride.
