Closest Six Man Program to DFW

I would like to visit with a six man football staff. I live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area. Does anyone know the closest school/program to the area?

I would go see Brice Helton at Dallas Covenant. Not only does he have the experience in running his own program, he was a part of his dad's El Paso Jesus Chapel programs back in the 1990s that was a real powerhouse. Abd if you want a comparison, his squad last year did lose to Throckmorton, like a lot of folks did ... but it was 90-70.

And Brice can set you off to the next destination on your journey, if that's your plan.

Lifegatesports,

Thanks a ton! I had know idea. I appreciate your quick response. I have 13 years of coaching experience at the high school and college level however I have never coached anything other than 11 man at the hs level. I will reach out to Coach Helton.

God Bless!

Couple bits of free advice, both of which I stole ...

1. Don't worry if your defense gives up more scores than you expected in crowded field (our name for 11 man) football. As I heard a DC say at a clinic, it was frustrating him until his head coach told him that his job, as DC, was to stop the opponent once a quarter. If he did that, and his offense scored every time as he expected them to do, they'd win the game by 4 touchdowns.

2. On offense, don't use your best athlete as the quarterback, taking the snap. Since sixman requires an exchange or pass before the ball can cross the line of scrimmage, you've now limited the effectiveness of that kid. Use him as a spreadback or a running back. A friend of mine scrimmaged a first year team who had their best kid at qb and he passed along this advice. They switched the kid to a running back and had a winning record their firs year.

Also, you might be able to catch a private school team finishing up spring football (TAPPS and I think the other private school leagues allow all schools to have spring football, unlike UIL which limits it to 4A and 5A crowded field).

Welcome to Six Man. There are many great clinics and wonderful resources in DFW and close by. You will find that there are some very unique differences in personnel between 11 and 6. For example a mountain sized noseguard in Six Man is useless unless he is really quick. If you would like to shoot me your phone number, I would love to talk to you. I am the new Commission for T-Cal and have a lot of valuable resources I can put you in contact with to make the transition a little easier.

Thanks,
Jimmy Stanford
T-Cal Football Commissioner

Coach, I am up in the DFW area and I spent 5 years coaching six-man ball. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help. What school are you at?

Go see Coach Helton like mentione before. I too am in your shoes and just visited him the last two weeks, as they were doing spring ball. Great guy, great program. Also go see Coach Huckabee over at Rockwall Heritage, and Coach Uland over at Greenville Christian if you can. Both great men and successfull programs.

Reminds me ... tonight (May 21) Greenville Christian is hosting a reception for Coach Uland, who is leaving the school at the end of the season.

Easy way ... at the left lower corner of this message box there is a little button that says "PM" ... which stands for "private message" -- click it and you should be able to send a message.
