Six-man pro
Beloit College (Wis.) comes out with what they call the "Mindset List," things that incoming college freshment either don't recognize or know about. Basically, it says every year that I am an old fogie and there's stuff that I thought was hip that is already outdated ... For the incoming Class of 2014

#74 is a misnomer. Not much science fiction on SyFy. NBC is too busy putting on pro rasslin' and cheap monster videos and 99% of what does pass the minimal criteria for science fiction is crap. That channel went quickly downhill from the moment NBC bought them. I am a science fiction nut and have not watched it much in the last 3 years.

Agree with you OBK. They need some Star Trek, Babylon 5, and shows like that, not Supergator vs Piranha Giants, or Shark Spring Break.

Didn't watch these, but saw it on tv guide. Been trying to go golfing but the tires on all the golf carts around here have melted from the heat. Did hit a ball the other day but it stuck to club so went to A/c and studied it over a cold drink.

The new Battlestar Galactica and Stargate had their moments too, but Babylon 5 was the best science fiction series ever. They also did a Riverworld movie in 2004 (3 hours) that was excellent, and the SciFi Dune mini series was the best treatment of that trilogy I have ever seen. I had read they had plans for more good stuff, but when NBC bought them in 2005, they were all cancelled.

And what I cannot figure out is that NBC bought them because they had a growing viewer base and were making a tidy profit, and the suits then proceed to screw it up completely and killed he goose.

Easy answer ... Anytime GE (owners of NBC) buy anything they first screw up what was the best thing about the company they buy. I know, I've seen it happen.

Would love to see those shows you mentioned on Syfy. It is almost embarrassing to see what they call Science fiction. I mean Ghost Hunters, give me a break.
