Anyone remember Abner Haynes?

11-man fan
Abner "we'll kick to the clock" Haynes.
With all the talk about the Pats and Matthew Slater I'm surprised his name hasn't been brought up.
Guess they still don't want to acknowledge the old AFL.

I remember him. Played for the Chiefs, Broncos. dolphins and jets. May have been some other teams. Played college ball at North Texas.

You got him.
Started with the Chiefs when they were still the Dallas Texans.
1962 AFL championship vs Houston Oilers.
Same deal, he wanted the wind to start OT, but he worded it wrong.
Guess he got the last laugh, they got the wind in the 2nd OT and Texans kicked game winning FG with the wind to their back.
But you knew that.
I was living in Ft Worth at the time and was a Texans fan.
Came to Houston for Christmas and the game was blacked out. Had to listen to it on the radio.

I don't remember watching him (I was 9 when he retired in 1967) but he is featured in a great book called The 10 Gallon War. It's about Cowboys/Murchison VS Texans/Hunt for pro football control of Dallas. The 62 championship was called by Curt Gowdy and Jack Buck (of St. Louis Cardinals BB fame, father of current announcer Joe Buck). QB's were great's George Blanda-Oilers and Len Dawson-Texans.
The game is on you tube but really grainy.

Thanks for the links. Lots of good info there. I didn't know about the book.
Also didn't know the game was on YouTube.
There is a also a short highlight video. Shows the infamous OT coin toss, and irony of ironies Bill Belichick
comments on it.

The Texans moved to KC the next year and I moved to Houston, but continued to be a KC fan
for a few years. Finally became a die hard Oilers fan. They took a lot of years off my life and I had already died a thousand deaths rooting for Baylor. Baylor's making up for it though.
I am a very, very old man in football years.

Well Elk, tonight we can be proud of the Bears. No possible Heisman QB or great backup freshman? No Biletikoff winning receiver? No problem. I've always loved a in your face, dominating running game. No conference leading RB (for the last 3 years?), no problem. Defense against the team that came within 7 of beating the # 1 undefeated team in the nation? No problem. The BEARKAT offense pretty well dominated.
Sic Em. Congrat's Baylor Bears.
