A few things I gleaned off the TAPPS website (http://www.tapps.net) and their weekly TAPPStalk.
Speaking of score reporting, I've already learned at least one school has gotten a friendly reminder to be sure their schedule and scores are updated on TAPPSter. If the penalties assessed last year are still in force, the next time, the head coach will get a $100 fine and given the opportunity to spend the next night his/her team plays in the friendly confines of his/her home (ie, suspended for one game). Forget it a third time and the fine jumps up to $200 and two games. I understand that there were some fines assessed last year -- and I would think that separating a Benjamin from my wallet probably would be a good reminder not to join the $200 club. I'm not sure if the warning is one per school or one per sport/team (as football hasn't started their season), but the guy who called me didn't want to find out the hard (and expensive) way.
You can access TAPPSter through the TAPPS website; if you don't have a login/password, have your athletic director or administrator issue one for you.
From the TAPPS website:
COACH EDUCATION
All high school coaches must complete the SCOPE Coach Education process prior to the first interscholastic contest (game) of the season. Thank you to all who have completed the process. Each school has been sent a copy of the continuing education certificate for 5 hours of CEU credit for those coaches who have completed SCOPE training. The Athletic Directors can make a copy for coaches who do the training. Athletic Directors can log in to TAPPSter to see if their coaches have completed scope training.
Injury Reporting:
Coaches and Athletic Directors, please make sure that you are reporting all concussions and season-ending injuries through TAPPSter. While we all hope that your athletes remain injury-free, the reality is that many schools have lost a competitor already to an injury or concussion.
Schedules and Rosters:
Coaches and Athletic Directors, your rosters and COMPLETE schedule (district and non-district) needs to be in TAPPSter prior to the first contest.
Score Reporting:
Coaches and Athletic Directors, please be diligent with your score reporting to TAPPSter. Forty-eight hours after any contest should be ample time to report your scores for games/matches played.
OFFICIALS:
TAPPS has approved all TASO chapters that are in good standing with their organization. Also there is a list of other official’s chapters that have been approved on the TAPPS website under each individual sport. Only these officials that are listed on the website and TASO chapters are allowed to oversee TAPPS games.
OFFICIAL BALLS:
TAPPS has once again entered into agreement with Wilson and Molten as the official ball suppliers for TAPPS. TAPPS schools MUST use the approved balls.
(Wilson is the approved football.) By the way, from what I heard, every coach should score 100 on their on-line tests.
