It was a long day of football at Emery on Saturday. But, our kickoff classic was a success once again. We had a big crowd of people that saw some great football. Three really exciting games, with each outcome less than 10 points. Thank you for everyone that came out to support these teams and those impacted by Hurricane Harvey. Each team and coach expressed how good it felt to get back to normal and football.
Mount Carmel Academy 53 Fort Bend Chargers 48
This was a back and forth game all day. Mount Carmel jumped out early, but the Fort Bend Chargers battled back. The Chargers had the lead going into the 3rd quarter, but Mount Carmel came from behind late to secure the lead. Mount Carmel could be the team to beat in TCAL. And, the Fort Bend Chargers will definitely give teams trouble in TAIAO.
Victory & Praise 61 High Island 56
It was another shootout in this one. Victory & Praise used their athleticism well. And, High Island hung tough with the leads at time. But in the end the Sharks of Victory & Praise made just a couple more plays down the stretch to pull out the win. Watch out for Victory & Praise in TAIAO and High Island should be a team competing for a playoff spot in UIL DI District 16.
Baytown Christian 42 Emery 32
This ended up being the most defensive game of the day. Baytown Christian took a 20-0 lead early taking advantage of three Emery turnovers. Going into the half it was 26-8 Bulldogs. The second half things changed a little with Emery coming within 4 points 34-30. But, in the end it was Baytown Christian holding on for the win. This was a good matchup for both teams that should make them better. Baytown Christian is very talented and looked focused on defending their title. A young Emery team will hopefully improve week to week as the season progresses.
Overall, I'm very pleased on the event for the Houston area sixman community. Once again thank you to all the players, coaches, and fans in attendance. We look forward to hosting again next year. Coach Wolf (Mount Carmel), Coach Pavlik (Fort Bend Chargers), Coach Mitchem (Crosby Victory & Praise), Coach Bronkhorst (High Island), and Coach Anderson (Baytown Christian) you and your staffs did and do a great job preparing, coaching, and teaching your teams on and off the field! Good luck to each of you this season!
