UPDATED 08/04/09

This is the tentative division breakout for T-CAL sixman football for 2009. It is possible that there could be some additions as contracts are still accepted through the end of the month. Thanks to Billy Helm for this information.

Wow two divisions for 12 teams. Just wondering how that works- is there like 2 team districts with the winner going to playoffs?

I could go back to Billy's e-mail to me, but I think the playoff format is something like this

Week 11 -- 1 & 2 seeds have byes. 3 vs 6 and 4 vs 5 have playoff games
Week 12 -- Winners in Week 11 play the 1 & 2 seeds
Week 13 -- Winners in Week 12 play for the championship.

It's basically the old Indiana basketball playoff concept ... everybody qualifies for the playoffs. Actually, I'm not terribly opposed to it.

TCAL is growing! I believe we now have 50 schools in TCAL. Handling growth is always a challenge. It is my opinion, to be attractive to the outside world. We (TCAL) had no choice but to split into two divisions. Even though we are very small for two divisions, it needed to happen to keep the smaller programs content with the growth and as I said before, to attract the larger programs. I believe TCAL will grow to 25 - 30 football teams by the 2010 season.

Enrollment numbers decides divisions (classification). As you probably know, this can be a challenge with the home school programs. Counting heads will be done on an honor system. You must count siblings that are eligible whether they play or not. You must also count students that play other sports and do not play football. These are things that will be worked out as we grow. We are happy to allow the home school community to be a part of TCAL. The charter school teams are also welcome in TCAL. Someone asked me the question...isn't TCAL a Christian ministry? Yes we are I replied. What would Jesus do? Christian in my mind means ministry. And that’s exactly what we plan to do... Minister! Most of the charter schools were once Christian schools that chose to change for financial reasons I'm sure. It’s very hard to survive off tuition! The enrollment numbers for now are: D1 26 - 60 boys and D2 is 6 - 25 boys.

As far as the post season, the bracket John posted has not been approved, but I believe this will work great. As we grow, not everyone will qualify for post-season play. If we take in a few more teams before August 1st, only the top six in each classification will make the playoffs. The playoffs will be decided by Grangers power rankings. With districts and regions so scattered across the state, I figured why not. The "Iron Man Bowl" has used this system and it worked great for them. We also will have an All-star Game the 1st week of December. I know that TCAL has had some rough times in the past. But that’s the past. The TCAL leadership and I are committed to see TCAL grow into the league it once was. To be the blessing that God has called us to be! God’s standard is excellence!
