Wingate

Pirates. Believe Red was their primary color but will ask a few folks to make sure

It ran as an elementary junior high school for a long while after the HS consolidated (into the 1970s and maybe 80s for sure) which was in the late 40s I think...will check on exact dates

I know some folks that went to JRHS there

Side Note...there was a small school that consolidated with Wingate back in the 1930s named Frog Jaw

Carl Shoenfield was the coach there when we played them in basketball. Hard to beat them in their gym. Little rascals could shoot well in their gym.

Maroon and White. HS Consolidated with Winters in 1947 (Class of 1947 was Wingate's last it seems), have seen two different sources for when they closed the school...one was 1991 and one was 1995

Frog Jaw ??? Were they nipping moonshine at the board meeting when they came up with that? I can't help but think of wasn't it Dandy Don who used to say if a frog had wings, he wouldn't bump is axx when he lands?

Frog Jaw was a small school house on Valley Creek about a mile south of HWY 277/Happy Valley, TX. Was named that bc the kids could hear the frogs on the creek croaking all the time while in school. I believe it was also called Lower Valley Creek....there was also a school called Upper Valley Creek that was called Cedar Knob...it later was absorbed by Blackwell's school district. I have a picture of Cedar Knob school house and several references on Frog Jaw.
