I was in the 2nd grade in Dallas,,i remember the teachers all crying
and scaring the hell out of us kids...48 yrs ago today

I was in Second Grade at St. Luke Catholic School in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. I can still remember where I was sitting in the classroom and the principal (Sr. Gertrude, I think) breaking over the intercom (which was rarely used) and patching the radio news feed through the loudspeaker.

We lived on a farm a few miles from town. We had a radio but no T.V. I was with my dad when he came to town and stopped at the post office. I remember the post master talking to him in a very excited voice, I don't remember the exact conversation but there were a lot of people talking very loud and milling around. Dad told me later that our President had been shot. It made a big impression on a four year old, I've never forgotten it.

Just turned 7, Gust elementary, suburb of Denver Colorado. Walked home from school for lunch. Heard it on the news on a tansistor radio in the kitchen. No idea what it was about but mother was paying attention so I did. Dallas? Where we're from ? (No Hurst, over the county line, but I'd been to Dallas before more than once). Went back to school. Nobody outside, in the hall's. Light's off in the classroom. The teacher was crying at her desk. She said go home, no more school today.

Few days later i remember playing tackle the man with the ball
in the front yard, when Mom came running out of the house
screaming ,They just shot Oswalt..That was on live TV
Days and Days,,all we had on TV was coverage of the tragic
event,,,I was in downtown Dallas today around noon,,,streets
were blocked off near the site,,,
Heard this on the radio today,,it happened on a friday
The NFL went ahead and played that sunday,,,Dallas Cowboys
played the Browns in Cleveland,,,Cowboy players were torched
by the brown fans cursed, spitt,,,you name it,,
Must have been tough on Coach Landry

It's Oswald, some say he didn't fire a shot. Twas not an "event', the President was killed as an example in public.

I saw somewhere either this morning, or yesterday morning, a photo that shows Oswald in the Depository window.

I was not yet thought of when JFK was shot.

Thanks for the memory. July 4th = Old Tom Cruise Movie, "Born on the fourth of July". Good one for him, dealt with the horror and consequences of War. Small portion was filmed at a frined's house in Southlake before it was what is now know as Southlake (the area's now covered with .5 to 2 mil + houses).

Ok, I confess. I'm really 75 and I was in the Dal-Tex building On the 2nd floor, was it 2nd or 3rd window over from the street. Straight angle, easy shot. The back shot. The one Gerald Ford on the Warren Commision moved up 6" to become an exit shot through the throat, which all Dallas Doctors said was an entrance wound. Bethesda refered to the third thoracic vertabrae for the back entrance wound.

I was sitting in Mrs. Houk's 2nd grade classroom at Hodges Elementary in Lubbock when the principal, Mr. Davis, made the announcement and then patched in the radio. Such a sad, emotional time. Definitely made an impression on my life.

BTW, I'm a double nickel baby (Oct. 1955) which made me one of the "old" ones in the class of 74!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

A little older than you guys. In fifth grade, we were left alone in class after lunch for about an hour while all the teachers gathered around a radio in the office. Later that afternoon, the whole school got together around the flag pole while the flag was lowered to half mast with much ceremony. One of our elementary teachers led us in a prayer. Probably Miss Mabel Hall, she was usually called upon to lead in a public prayer. Somehow I don't see that happening anywhere but a small school now days!
