He went to HS in WV, but was the long time coach for Sterling City.

I'm not really sure if thats him in pic or not High Plains. I had the same thought. I noticed other Hall of Fame inductees were noted if accepted by someone else on their behalf. This picture wasn't. Not sure. If I remember correctly the field was already named Diddle Young Field when I was a young fellow there in the 70's. Now wishing I could find more out. Its kind of interesting. This is all I found researching, per texas six man coaches association.

William Leon "Diddle" Young
Record as Head Coach 89-24-2
Head Coach @ Water Valley
After completing an outstanding high school career as a Six-Man football and basektball star at Water Valley High School, he received a scholarship for both sports, as well as baseball at Eastern New Mexico University where he continued his athletic sucess. William set a school record in the 1943-44 season with 27 wins and only 1 loss. While at Fort Davis in 1952-53 his team was the Regional Champion which was as far as they played at the time. At Sterling City in 1954 and 1956 they were Regional Champions and in 1957 District Champions.

The man in the picture is Mr. Young's son. Diddle died in 1965. The only other thing to add is his 1953 Ft. Davis team lost in regional to Christoval who had a pretty good player named Jack Pardee. Or at least I am told.

topher80...... I know it's not always a good gauge... but it'll be interesting to see how the Sterling City/Sands matchup plays out. I haven't seen Sands play but I can't help but think that Sterling City has what it takes to counter what Granger's machine predicts.
