Undefeated and No Championship

Oh, it once was possible. I can think of a 3A team back in 1963 that went 11-0-1 and didn't advance past the regional finals. The same team went 9-0-1 the next season and didn't even make the playoffs. Nowadays, though, with the addition of overtime I seriously doubt that it will ever happen again, except in the case of teams that play an independent schedule.

In all classifications there may have been several, but Sherman started '76 and '77 ranked #1 in the state,
didn't lose a game either year, but didn't win state. They were 10-0-2 in '76 and were knocked out of the
playoffs in regionals. In '77 they were 9-0-1 and didn't even make the playoffs. This was back when only one team from
each district went and before they did away with ties.

Yes it happened in a final in the 1970's....when did the new rule of overtime go in effect?
playoff games in '96, district games were optional, each district decided. All games in '97.

Borden County tied Goree(nice haloween name) in 1972 8-man semifinal. they were also tied in penetrations. Goree advanced on first downs and won the championship the next week against Harrold.

14-14

If penetrations were tied too what determined who advanced?
Also, winning this game however, then State by 4 points is enough to turn a coaches hair grey (if it wasn't already).
Lucky he didn't have a heart attack.
