Today History will be Re-Written

Someone close to the Ira program needs to email that guy and let him know he might not be as close as he thinks he is. Even though I am sure he would argue that six man is inferior and it doesn't count or something.

Will Lance be recognized by anyone besides the people at Ira and the people on this board for his accomplishment? Didn't know if anyone else in the country saw this as a big deal or just thinks we should give him a pat on the butt and say good job.

Sad part of this is that the "Official Texas High School Football Records", will not recoginize his accomplishment!!

I have no knowledge of Lance's records, but he has more than likely reached this milestone kinda like Tyler Ethridge shattered the all-time TD passing record...........................by reaching it with most of their games ending at the half!!!
Could you even imagine what Lance & Tyler's numbers would be if most of their games lasted to the late 4th or even all 4 quarters?!

Regardless what the 11-man jerks think, the 6-man world should honor and applaud Lance's unbelievable rushing record!! I hope you get 100's& 100's of yards past Hall's record before your high school career ends! GOOD LUCK!

Exactly the point I made to someone a while back when talking about this. They said something like, "Yeah, but it's just 6-man. Not many defenders to get past."

I said, "True, but Lance got all those yards when probably half of the games he played in were over at halftime, and several more ended early before the end of the 4th quarter."

Response: "Oh."

:D

The crowded field guys don't feel that there is competition in Six Man. And since they feel this way, their should be a disclaimer to Kenneth Halls record, too...he was at a small school...alot less competition. As a matter of fact, their should be seperate records for every classification, since small school eleven man and Six Man schools aren't that far off competition wise. My point is, the Morris record should stand...6 Man or 11 man.

Granger, the Florida kid is counting his 8th grade season, which Florida counts but the National High School Federation does not.

Fact...six-man game are shorter by quarters, shorter because of the 45 point rule, the field is shorter and is narrower...all that added up means this:

A six-man player plays less of a game, on a shorter field with less room to move in and 10 yards less to gain then an 11man player does.

And I have tried for 3 weeks to get a hold of someone at the National HS Federation with zero luck.

Wanted to let yall know that Ken Hall's career rushing record will be passed tonight by Lance Morris of Ira. He just needs 14 yards to tie and 15 to set a new record. Can I write an article for yall online about this? I am sure people will say it isn't a record because it is six-man, I disagree with that train of thought, it is UIL sanctioned High School Football so the record should stand. There should be a notation saying Hall's is 11man and Morris is 6man.

Keep these facts in mind...

Lengths of quarters/game:

6man - 10mins, and a game can end a half time or any point after the first half

11man - 15mins, and teams play the whole game

Yards to a field:

6man - 80

11man - 100

*less total yards to be gained by a 6man player or team

Area of the field:

6man - 3200 yards

11man - 5000 yards

*a 6man team and player has less area to maneuver and play in

People who argue that it is easier for the 6man play to get these stats don't think about all the advantages the 11man player has over a 6man player.

And as for the argument about stat keeping not being reliable...I would say you are telling me that a Class B school, the smallest 11man classification, in 1950-53 had more reliable methods for keeping stats than a school of similar size in the present day?

What do yall think????

I thought 11 man HS has 12 minute quarters.
Never the less. I've e-mailed ESPN and in turn after an acknowledgement Out of Bounds, and FSSW today.
Also left messages at Abilene paper and one tv station, spoke with a sports reporter at another tv station who actually seemed interested and thanked me for the tip.
Left a message in the sports dept at Lubbock paper & tv station.
Don Hardin says the Wichita Falls paper and/or tv is supposed to be there.
Let em' call it apples to oranges. The kids play hard, run hard (and more), hit hard, in pads, with zebras. It's football!!!
Tell anybody and everybody. This is an outstanding accomplishment. If they can't accept that fact they are a bunch of ignorant snobs.

Pete Christy at the Lubbock station called back and left me a message. Said they did a spot when he broke the sixman record, Don hardin's been keeping him abreast, and they will have a camera there tonight.

If you read the article the kid has played 44 games. That's 250 a game give or take a few yards (didn't take the time to do the math). How many games has Morris played in?

On a side note. Hate me if you want but as an ex 11 man player and coach as well as a 6 man coach I can tell you with absolute certainty it is easier to move the ball in 6 man as opposed to 11. That said the shorter field, shorter games argument is 100 % correct.

Good luck to Lance and the Ira Bulldogs. Great to see a small school athlete doing phenomenol things! Congrats!

Sorry Guys

I have lived in six man towns every day of my life, but we are comparing apples and oranges here. 11-man records and 6-man records should be totally separate.

11,000 rushing yards in 11 man is much harder to attain than in 6-man. Just the nature of the games and 6-man being more open and more scoring.
