Counting the picks in UIL on the toy. If I counted right, there are 63 games. Of those, 43 are picked to have a 45 point spread or more. Is this what we will see every week now that all of UIL are into district games? Seems like a lot to me.

Not to spin this thread too far off topic -

But -

Given the high number of expected 45-ings, and given anecdotal experience that supports the position that there are very few district races that are competitive - where are the tight district races this season?

In D-I, I see a couple of tight races in Region 2. Nothing in Region 1. And - well - Regions 3 and 4 are in the east, so I'm not sure they even count.

In D-II, I can't think of any races that might be tight ones.

Kinda takes the air out of the balloon when you have a playoff birth clinched by the second district game.

Curious to know what happened to Ropes vs Whiteface. I have seen Whiteface and didnt think they could contend with Ropes speed and quickness. Was Ropes missing a player?

Ropes ended the game with 5 healthy bodies. One starter played about 5 plays and their best player was ejected early in the third on a very questionable call by the ref. Ropes was up 46-24 when that happened. Head of the chapter sent film on clarification of the ejection rule and his hit compared to the Ropes hit were nothing a like. Took the ref 9 seconds to drop the flag after the hit and after the play was ruled a touchdown. Call changed the entire district.

I know district nine is in the east and doesn't count, but, all five teams are solid and can probably beat any other team in the district on a given night. You want a tight district race, follow District nine.

It is a tight race but there are no standout teams in the district.

Are we getting into a word contest here? I consider Throck, Crowell, Ira and Water Valley to be elite teams in D 1. Valley was in the elite catagory for the last several years, but dropped into the solid catagory during this year. (at least in my mind) About the next 20 to 25 teams in the rankings I consider to be solid. To become an elite team one would have to beat one of the four I mentioned in the playoffs or in the east prove yourself worthy by making a long playoff run. Last year I thought Abbott and Gordon were both elite. They have dropped into the solid catagory and no one in the east has taken their place....yet.
