The American Flag/Robin Williams and baseball in 1976

Here is Rick Monday rescuing a flag getting ready to be burned during a Dodgers game in 1976. I can kind of remember when this happened.

For those to young to remember or not born yet keep in mind that 1976 was this countries 200th birthday and patriotism was very high. I remember being in school in Burlington, CO. My brother was a junior and his class all got together and painted all the fire hydrants red, white and blue for the bicentinial. No, they did not get in trouble, they got a big write up in the local paper.

Enjoy,

Andy

I was watching that game on TV in the dorm rec room when it happened. One of the leftist hippies in their started booing Rick and damn near got his butt handed to him.

America has lots of hidden patriotism. But there is many just like that guy that you talked about that hate the government and the first thing that comes to mind is the flag and our country. There are many generations between mine and yours that don't see america as our home and don't realize the freedom we have. I always love how sixman games show more patriotism than any of the other highschool sports. It is truely the americans game.
