Team Scrimmages

Milford, Penelope, Morgan. Milford showed why they are ranked in state, as they dominated. Morgan showed some bright spots, but also needs some work. Penolope, like Morgan showed some bright spots but also needs some work. Milford scored numerous times, Morgan scored against Penolope a coulpe of times. Penolope didn't score.

Lucas Christian/Watauga Harvest/Greenville Christian Scrimmage

Lucas Christian looks to be back and a true contender in TCAF after last years rebuilding. Watauga looked a little weaker then last year but still good depth and a solid team. Greenville Christian looked very weak, mostly because they only had 8 players and few athletes.

Lucas and Watauga looked pretty even scoring back and fourth on each other consistantly. Greenville could not score or stop anyone from scoring.

I'm not a fan of critiquing a scrimmage, because in my opinion if conducted right teams should look very raw.

Greenville looks to be in a rebuilding phase. As stated earlier they only had 8 kids. They looked to be over matched against the other two teams and didn't have the numbers to rotate kids and or full units at offense or defense. They only had one coach which is a huge disadvantage.

Lucas had two very good quarterbacks no jersey numbers so hard to tell if they were ever on the field at the same time but they are the two best players on Lucas roster. They had a couple of other nice players but hard to tell who was hwo with no numbers. Build around the two QB's and they could be special.

First thing I noticed was that Harvest increased the size of their squad from last year. If jersey numbers were correct they looked to have lost all but 1 starter from last year. The only starter number I saw was #7 who plays both sides of the ball. The rest of the kids looked to be new. Which is cause for concern. They lost their QB who I knew was a senior. I didnt see their RB #6 or WR #8 from last year. They appear to have replaced both on the field though #5 RB looked to be the new high energy rally guy on the team he looked almost as good as last years #6 maybe a brother. They replaced #8 with #20 who looked fast with good hands he will be a challenge for any DB to cover. Harvest just needs to find a QB who can run the offense and spread the ball. The leading candidate was #2 who was a tall lanky kid who threw a nice ball not sure if he can stretch the field. Harvest is very very good at blocking and almost seemed to look for an excuse to hit something. They also had #28 at RB who had very good straight line speed.

All that to say I agree with DFW6. Lucas looked good and has the potential to build around the two QB's and and make a deep run. Lucas has a lot to look forward to and be proud of.

Harvest doesn't look as good as last years team, but that would be hard to do so early in the season. They need some time to develop chemistry with so many new moving pieces. Not as good as last year but time will tell.

Be patient Greenville and encourage more kids at the school to play football. Hope your season goes well.

Good luck to all the teams.

Anyone watch Abbott/Live Oak/Methodist Children's Home/Allen Academy? I wasnt able to attend, did anyone check out this scrimmage?

Just to clarify - GCS is playing only a JV schedule this year (if I read previous posts correct). They were only matched up against LCA and WCA JV's. And, boy, was it hot.

I did not know that GCS was playing a JV schedule this year but that is probably smart with how few players they have. But no that is incorrect on the other teams JV's. Watauga and LCA were both playing with their varsity teams, however they were usually putting in their 2nd or 3rd back ups in when they were scrimmaging against GCS.
