TCAL semifinals at one location over 2 days?????

Hosting 2 semifinals games at one site spread over two days seems must be advantageious to someone, but it is not beneficial to the people that count - the players and the families.

I cannot find any level of football in Texas where both semifinals are played in a neutral site between four teams over 2 days causing additional mileage and time, and more importantly less opportunities for families and friends to attend.

I understand putting two state championships back to back with the hopes of drawing football fans that might not drive to one game. But will this scenario bring additional fans?

It would be nice if some of the grandparents, friends and families of the players could attend without having to have 10-12 hours available and over 300 miles roundtrip to watch. With a home team, or a site somewhere between 2 teams, at least some people can attend. Now, with this site in middle of 4 teams, who will be able to attend other than immediate family.

If this was 2 back to back games, then maybe this makes some sense (although I fail to see it). But these games are spread over two days. I am at a loss. Can someone explain the rationale????

Let me give you one possible reason why this happens ... and it may not be the only or actual reason, but it could be (see the "even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile" rule).

It could be that one of the teams has a reason why they cannot play on a certain day. It might be other committments, especially when you have coaches who depend on other employers than the school or home school group for their living expenses. I believe one of the schools involved has a coach whose job for a major university managing their athletic facilities more-or-less requires that Saturday is a working day for him, especially if that major university happens to have their crowded field football team playing at home on Saturday.

I had to work on setting up a playoff game where we could have played one of two teams. The first team could not play on Saturday because of an academic competition previously scheduled. The second team could not play on Friday because of some religious ceremonies planned for Friday night. So, we had to set up situations for both occurences.

I can guarantee that it wasn't done to inconvenience you. Although there's times there are some folks I'd like to inconvenience.

Thanks for the possible reasons.

I don't think I mentioned inconveniencing me. I am a parent. I will be there all day regardless of where it is or when it is.

I did mention my concern - less people get to watch the game. My family has several dozen people that would come to a game within an hour or so just like I am sure numerous players from our team and our opponent's team have. It would be nice if some of those people, either ours or theirs, were able to attend. With this plan, fewer people, other than immediate family, will be able to attend.

You did not get to the main point. Why are the semi-finals all at one place? TCAL Tradition, better for someone, better attendance, better gate receipts? It has to be for some reason.

Have a nice day.

If the price I've heard charged for the rental of Brenham's Hohlt Park is correct, you'd be a fool not to have as many playoff games at that site if you're looking for a neutral site.

The price tag now explains why Tomball Home School headed all the way to Brenham to play their home games.

It makes me jealous that my friends at Brenham Christian are able to get the joint for their home games -- they are fortunate that the commandment, "Thou Shalt Not Steal" doesn't include getting a bargain deal.

Oh, and I wasn't ragging on you about the inconvenience comment ...

Mr. Hogan,

There is a good reason for the Friday night game. TCAL honored the request of Team A to play on Friday because of personal reasons.

I certainly respect your concerns and hope that you will continue to support TCAL in a way that is honorable and encouraging to the people who read these threads.

Blessings on your teams game!

Coach - I guess my concern is not that one team needs to play on Friday and the others on Saturday.

My concern is why have all four teams play at one location? It just looks like more friends and family could attend the game if the game was played at a site between the two teams.

I will certainly continue to support TCAL. I think it is a fantastic organization. I hope that you don't feel that my question was less than encouraging or honorable to the people that read this thread. That was certainly not the intent. It was simply a question to help me understand the rationale.

Thank you - Mark Hogan

Mr. Hogan,

Your questions and comments are completely legitimate and do not have a trace of discouragement or dishonor. I'm not sure why that was mentioned. I agree that it would be best to have a site where more fans could attend. I would prefer having the games be played at the home of the higher ranked team rather than the current plan. Home field advantage is not really that big of an issue to most 6 man football teams. Anyway, glad to see some comments on here. Don't be discouraged from posting more.

There was nothing wrong with Mr. Hogans comments. We are always looking for ways to improve! Sorry if I gave the wrong impression! I am only trying to be a peacemaker. Have a great day!
