TCAF had a chance to right a wrong done to a young man but decided not to. They deemed our QB ineligible without even hearing his side of the story. What happened to him was the fault of the school he was going to at the time and it can be proved but that apparently does not matter to them. Why cant Christian organizations act like Christians on important matters such as this? This young man and his family were lied to by another private school but TCAF will not even consider it. Instead, throw this young man away, its the easyist thing to do. This young man is crushed right now. He feels like the system has failed him and his college chances have been diminished. All we can do is tell him to keep praying.
Coach, I have no idea of the reasoning behind the TCAF decision. I have no idea of the actual circumstances and I'm looking at this from 30,000 feet up. And before my buddy from El Paso has a heart attack, I'm actually going to stand behind TCAF on this.
But Coach, I'm not sure it helps your squad or this kid to make this public online. I'd have kept this to myself if I were you.
Okay, leagues such as TCAF, TAPPS, and T-CAL need to have some hard-and-fast eligibility rules. Otherwise, every school is going to come up with a sad sack, hard luck story about how Joey or Sammy or Abby should be allowed to play, and it's (cue the violins) "for the kids." And Lord knows, lots of us in private schools can be pretty agile when it comes to trying to get that "exception to the rule" for our kid, but we're pretty black-and-white when it comes to that school across town.
Yep, it is for the kids. For all the kids. If School A gets a pass, "exception to the rules," or whatever, then it puts them at a competitive advantage over every other school in the league that didn't get that pass. It is the responsibility of your coaches, athletic and school administration to KNOW your league's rules AND/OR get some clarification of the rules BEFORE you may take a move that will rule a child ineligible.
Coach, if the young man is eligible to play at a UIL school and has a serious chance to play some collegiate football ("college chances"), get him enrolled at the UIL school where he is eligible (attendance zone). I think all he needs is 15 days attendance at the school for eligibility. Not the best choice, but there are good Christian role models at those schools as well.
