Tapps favs so far?

yall are going tight? yall have some beef on the line.
It was obvious what was happening from first drive. Yeah…your spread back is hurt…but you don’t change your entire offense on account of that. Run your plays with the backup. We do it every year. There are one or two games where our coach thinks that he has to outsmart the opponent rather than outplay the opponent. Tonight was one of those nights.

Our secondary has been suspect all year… but the offense covered that up. Tonight, not only was the secondary bad, we couldn’t tackle and our coaches never made adjustments. They killed us on the dump off to the blocker and we let them do it over and over.

Covenant is a very well coached team. I would have loved for my son to play for them.

Final thought… The officiating was terrible. That’s not sour grapes because Prestonwood benefited from some horrible calls. It’s just an observation. You would expect a better crew at this stage of the game.

Huntsville over Lucas in overtime earlier today - Huntsville vs covenant in the championship .

Lucas up 22-6 at half then onside right returned for TD by Huntsville . Huntsville tied it with a TD with about 3 min left in the 4th then LCA fumbled snap on first down which gave Huntsville the ball at the 2 and they put it in quick . Lucas then drove the length of the field to tie with little time left . Huntsville wins by stopping Lucas in the 2nd overtime . So close for 4 straight years for LCA . A great group of guys that gave us much to cheer for .

In D3 Fredericksburg seems poised for another addition to its deep collection of state championships… but the fact that st. joes took them to the very last play of the 4th quarter is odd. they have better wins over better teams, like bulverde gloria deo, but the st joes game is a little concerning. st. joes does seem to have picked up things a lot, at least from the regular season at least.

Are you saying Freddy has the better wins than St Joe’s or better wins than Wichita?

both freddy and wichita have wins over roughly top 20 teams (bulverde for st joes and newcastle for wichita i believe)

Yeah I was also pretty surprised at the Freddy v StJoe’s score. Expected a similar score as the other semi final in d3.

I don’t know who’s better, and Freddy will always be well prepared. Should be a good game!

Clearing Misconceptions -

The only thing that surprised me about Friday’s Fredericksburg and St. Joseph match-up is that St. Joes lost.

Since St.Joe’s loss to Baytown seems to be clouding the analysis here, consider this:
  • St. Joes was missing two of their All-District defensive linemen that night.
  • Officiating was not up to par. A long pass reception was ruled fumbled before the end-zone only to be picked up by Baytown and run back for a score. This missed call alone accounted for a 12-16 point swing: enough to change the outcome. There were plenty of other bad calls.
With those two players present and a better set of officials, I could easily see that match-up being a mercy-rule win for St. Joes.

Also, St Joes playing BVCHEA and Richland Springs as their first and second games developed them into a much stronger team which is not evident from the record of those two losses.

Overall, it doesn’t say less about Fredericksburg that St. Joes played them so close and too many here are discounting St. Joes.

Fredericksburg came out on top this past Friday, but I bet few on Freddy’s side would be excited if the two teams had to meet up again. Coach Shipman managed the clock as well as everyone here would predict and the game came down to a near repeat of last year’s match-up between these two teams. Two games determined in the final seconds have resulted in a 1-1 outcome over two years.

Any team that makes it deep into the playoffs has been on the sunny side of luck at least a few times throughout the season, and I think Fredericksburg had just a tad more luck on their side on Friday.

While Coach Shipman has been coaching most of his players for their entire careers, Coach Forgioni did a great job in his first year at St. Joes by leading them to the state semi-finals. Keep in mind that this is a team that lost many key players from last season’s semi-final run. With more time, I believe Coach Forgioni will develop in his players the discipline and game savvy that will result in many formidable play-off runs for St. Joseph in the future.

It will be interesting to see how Fredericksburg stacks up against Wichita.

I think you can probably appreciate that no one here is able to watch all of every teams games. So we only really have scores to go off of. Based on St Joseph’s scores, that game being close absolutely was a surprise. That’s no disrespect to St Joe’s. They’ve earned their spot, and given how close the game was I think everything you said makes a lot of sense. Looks like they improved a lot over the year, good for those guys and I bet we see them continue to field playoff teams.
