Stretch or no stretch?

I've noticed a huge increase in knee injuries. I started asking around and found that they are telling coaches that stretching isn't required anymore. Back in the day we stretched and warmed up. Our coach always said a flexible team didn't have injuries. What are everyone else's thoughts?

Who is telling coaches not to stretch? Never heard anyone saying not to stretch. That being said, thoughts on stretching have changed dramatically over the last 30 years.

My thoughts...there are more knee injuries because kids are sitting on a couch most of the summer instead of out playing ball, swimming, riding bikes, etc. Knees were stronger back when there weren't video games. Stretching has changed some, but still gets done.

people still stretch and warm up.. but alot are going away from static stretching and focusing more on dynamic stretching activities for warmup.. there is still a time/place for static or stationary stretching.. theres alot of research behind this movement

I think part of the problem with knee injuries especially in girl's basketball is cause so many play basketball year round. The better aau coaches give the girls a break to rest and heal before school ball starts. Some aau coaches think they know more than any high school coach and have practice year round even during high school basketball season, you see a lot of those girls with knee problems.

I'm assuming the info is coming from coaching clinics.I see it all over the news now. Just like milk, they told me it's good for me and then five years later that it's bad for me. The three boys in my little town said that stretching would have prevented their knee injuries. These are bum knees they have to walk on the rest of their lives.
