Rankings once again leave me wondering...

How can a team be favored by 41, win by 45 (beating the spread by 4), and still go down -18.68 points in the rankings? Kings Academy played a very young Balch Springs team, and ended up winning 63-18. Balch Springs lost the spread, and deservedly went down -7.05 points. But how in the world does a team beat the spread and still lose that many points in the rankings? maybe im missing something but if anyone has any helpful advice to offer id like to know. Thanks

Confused myself.. Newcastle was favored by 45 over Northside.. wins 63-18 .. by 45 over a DI school .. and looses over 30 pts ??? Not that I really pay that close attention to the ranking .. more look at who they have played and what the outcomes were when looking at upcoming opponents etc.. just curious how win by 45 as expected and fall 30+pts .. not complaining .. happy someone keeps this site up to find scores and info etc...

quit trying to make sense of the rankings, last year Christway wins the state title only has one loss on the year, beats an undefeated team for the state championship, and still only finishes third in the rankings, behind the team they beat for the title. the rankings mean nothing at all, just win your last game and all will be well.

It's leaving me wondering too. Austin Christian Homeschool beats the spread by 42 points(underdog to mt Carmel by 22 and ends up winning 46-26) and yet austin Christian only goes up 0.84. I don't see how this could happen. But hey I'm just glad Austin Christian got the win

I say just win the games and youll be fine as long as you are plaing when other teams are watching. then you are in good shape so dont worry about the rankings

This same old broken record is tiresome. The search button is just below the logo. Look up the older threads that have discussed the system every year. Here is one to get you going:

And like most of these types of topics end. If you don't like them - go someplace that will make you happy. These rankings are the best thing going for sixman football in Texas.

Let me explain something once again... Your rating IS NOT just tied to this week's result....

Who has Tyler King's Academy lost too? Dallas Academy. Dallas Academy suffered a big loss this week, thus dropping... so guess what, you drop some too...

Newcastle has lost to Crowell and Knox City. Both lost in upsets this week... and you follow their lead.

There is a method. Researching all of the variables (who you have played and who they have played)---helps.

thanks for clearing it up granger its making sense now. I didnt realize that the previous teams we've played had that much effect on our rankings. Hopefully dallas academy can get some big wins and move us up lol but like others were saying rankings dont matter its all about winning the big one. Thanks once again no more complaints from me (I hope) :P

Granger has said this more than once. A good coach doesn't put much on rankings. Rankings can hurt a good team because it puts a target on them and allows others to play above their potential which usually results in an upset of some kind. A top team may look to the next game and get caught.

Good coaches and there are lots of them in Sixman, really don't manage their game based on rankings. Like anything there will never be a flawless system other than playing the game.

I appreciate all that Granger and his crew do. This site has been rewarding for me and I like all the chatter even if I don't always agree with it.

Thanks and I think that's a good point... I don't always agree with the rankings.

There have been times where I wanted to move some teams around, but haven't. You cannot micromanage the top-10 or specific rankings. It is a system and it does a better than solid job. It also does it without all of the emotion.

My dad made me see things more clearly with this comment - It doesn't matter how good a team is if they don't show it EVERY TIME they step on the field." I think Granger's system proves my dads point.
