Ranking figures

high level view -

each team is given a starting power - how that number is arrived at is up to the individual, some start them all even most don't
example 4 teams A, B, C, D each rated 100
A vs B since they are equal power they should tie A wins by 20 points that means A is better based on the outcome of this game
C vs D same thing except c wins by 10 points so they are just a little bit better than D

The adjustment - A goes up based on some formula B goes down Lets use the difference, A+20 B-20 C+10 D-10
The rankings A120 C110 D90 B80

Week 2 A vs c B vs d - the results A wins by 10 b wins by 20
The adjustment A+10 C-10 B+20 d -20
The rankings A130 B100 C100 D70

do it for 100 plus games for 11 weeks then the next 5 during the playoffs. Plus you only tweak those that play (most systems) and a team that scheduled easy teams can end up 10-0 with a pretty good rating going into the playoffs and get 45'd by a team that had a lot less power(on paper)

SO the wild card in 6 man is the fact there is a mercy rule, not all teams are equal, some coaches will go out of their way to not 45 a team some will.

My system uses a varying modifying value that is based on sum of squares for all teams across the season with 4 possible curves depend on if they were the favorite or underdog and if they won or lost plus I front load changes in the first 4 weeks to modify the power faster to get to a true power. most of the systems get pretty good about week 5. Try it some time as you gather data yoou willl find you almost always need to modify your curves based on newer data.

Can someone please explain how the ranking figures are figured?????????

The true answer is that the Illuminati have their favorites whom they reward each week with a high ranking. If your team isn't on the list, the only way to move up in the rankings is to get dirt on the Illuminati and threaten to make it public or make large financial contributions to them. Be careful if you take the first route. Many who attempt that have disappeared.

Just remember, if you're from Aquilla, you're screwed. The Illuminati hate Aquilla.

That's a fact! They made the semis in 2010 were only ranked #16 at the end of that season...

Speaking of the Illuminati, I thunk I was one of them. I still ain't seen those large financial contributions. And since I'm on the private school side of the street, those contributions here are tax deductible ... just a reminder as you do your end-of-the-year financial planning, hint, hint ...

You mean OBK, the Guru, and JO ain't sharing the wealth with you? You're going to have to dig up more dirt to make it to the inner circle.

I do not know what you Aquila boys are crying about I think Grandfalls can go undefeated this year and Longhorn still won't have them in the top 20.

Here is my formula, for every game, for every team. (Fav rating - dog rating) - (fav score - dog score) /2. The resulting number is added to the rating of the team that beats the spread and subtracted from the other team. Example: a rating = 150, b rating =130 team a wins 46-32. (150-130) -(46-32)/2 = (20-14)/2 = 6/2 = 3. Team a new rating = 147, team b new rating =133. Makes team a 14 rating points higher than team b, which makes sense cause that's what they won by. That number is good till their next game, I don't look at what happened in the past, and I cap both spread and actual score differential at 45. Simple as cake.

OFB -please quit blaming us, uh the Illuminati for all the rating ills. I don't think the Toy takes that opinion into account.

I have wondered about the rating system the AFCA uses for figuring rankings for Division II football. West Texas A&M was ranked 16th at the end of the year with a 9-2 record and a strength of schedule off the charts. Never got higher yet in the last two weeks they have eliminated Nationally ranked #4 and #1 convincingly in National Playoff tournament. They got in by their seeding in Division II Super Region 4 (there are 4 regions). They were seeded 6th (lowest you can be ranked) and they won the Lone Star Conference. This week they get their shot #2 in the semi final game.

Love this format. A playoff tournament of conference winners and a couple of highly ranked teams by invitation and they just play it out to the end. #1 Seeds have home field all the way through. No questions about BCS rankings - computer models and guess work.

But, what would all the radio sports talk show hosts and ESPN analysts have to talk about if big time college football went to this system? They'd have to start Bob Costasing it.
