I looked for a proper forum to post this in, but none seemed to apply, so please excuse me for non football talk about a six-man playoff team's town, but there seems to have just been a major pipeline explosion in Milford.. few details yet but it is breaking news in the DFW area and there is a live new chopper feed here. Hope all are ok.

Live news is saying you can see flames from 50 miles away... they may just mean the smoke.. but either way.. crazy

To answer some of the questions on the forum of the story.
It is most likely a natural gas line.
Gasoline is allowed to be piped, but it is probably not gasoline. Liquid Natural Gas or LNG will burn with a lot of black smoke. I'm not saying that is what it is, but it is a good possibility.
They will let it burn itself out because gas that is on fire won't explode. If you extinguish the flame without removing the source of the fuel, you are setting yourself up for disaster. Creating a bomb, if you will. This is the safest and most common practice.

Exactly right. Turn off the closest valves on either side and let the fuel in the line burn out.
