Photo project help!

Good morning, y'all.
My name is Guillermo Hernandez, I'm a photojournalist based in Austin and I'm currently working on a project documenting Texas high school football through photographs. I've been visiting a different location each week of this season and tried to capture each stadium and school's unique feel for the game. You can check out the project at: www.guillermo-hernandez.com/whenintexas
Due to unfortunate scheduling conflicts, I was unable to shoot any six-man games during the regular season, but I intend to make it up through the playoffs.... and here's where I need your help. I am trying to figure out which game I should visit this week. What I've been looking for to shoot in my previous weeks are historic teams, stadiums and rivalries, basically places and teams that have some greater significance to Texas football. I am hoping y'all could give me some recommendations as to which six-man game I should go to this weekend.
Please feel free to contact me on my email [email protected] as well in case you have any further questions or comments about my project.
Thank you for your help, looking forward to reading your comments!

Thank you for capturing Texas High School Football. We are confident that you will find Six-Man Football very exciting and enjoyable.

Here are some exciting games & rivalries that I think you should consider for this first week of the playoffs.

Sterling City 8 point favorite over Garden City and the communities are only 32 miles apart. This should be a great game.
Check out this link for comparison of these teams.

They are really close on all stats and I expect this to be a great game.

Aquilla vs Abbott only 11 miles apart & long time rivalry. Abbott is a 39 point favorite.

If you were looking to capture the ambience of historic sixman fields, you may be a tad late. Most playoff games are played on neutral fields and at 11 msn stadiums. Again I say MOST..........

You might head up US 183 to Hamilton friday, Richland Springs Coyotes bi-district game. Check out their 10 year record and State Championship record..

Don't expect great lighting. ISO 6400 or higher, f/2.8 and 1/250-1/500 (if you're lucky) shutter speeds. 6man fields rarely have much light. Makes photography as much of a challenge as playing the game sometimes. :)

You may want to take that into consideration before deciding on where to go.

Great photographs! You have done an excellent job of capturing the essence & community of Texas Football...the boys, the fans, the cheerleaders, the fields, the sunsets & scenery and especially the unique stadiums.

Another game you may want to photograph is in Jayton on Friday night vs Guthrie. This could be a great opportunity to capture the essence of tiny towns with huge support for their schools and students. The game is sure to have more in attendance than the combined population of the two towns that totals 694 people. You can capture the essence of rural west Texas with lots of cowboy hats in the crowd and more cowboy boots than shoes and don't be surprised to see pickups and trailers with horses still saddled, because they came strait from work.

The Jayton stadium also captures the essence of west Texas with a wind turbine spinning on the North end of the stadium and oil wells near by, all of which represent the largest industries in these counties - Agriculture and Energy. The increase in energy production in several of six-man communities are visible by the new turf football fields surrounded by a new track like the one at Jayton. The field is surrounded by a 4' chainlink fence and much of it will be shoulder to shoulder with fans because they want to be as close to the action as possible and because the stands are not large enough to hold all of the crowd. In some places the fence will have pickups backed up to the field to provide their own multilevel grand stands with people sitting on the tail gate, another row in lawn chairs inside the truck bed and yet another row sitting on the tool box or cattle feeder. You might even see folks standing and holding up their phone in an effort to catch enough cell phone signal for a text message to send the most resent score to friends and family that couldn't make the game.

You will find students from neighboring schools congregated together in the stands and along the fence with their letter jackets on sporting their own school colors while supporting the teams on the field. You are likely to see those letter jackets highly decorated showing the students involvement in football, basketball, track, golf, tennis, cross country, FFA, band, one act play and more, because in these small schools it takes just about everyone to field a team - regardless of the event. These small towns and small schools have a culture that definitely builds a strong sense of community, family and pride.

Whatever game you choose, we in the six-man community thank you for helping capture it with your camera.

Thank you all so much for your help, suggestions and kind words. I'm really excited about getting to shoot six-man football and it seems all your suggestions could work out great.
I'll look into all these and see which one I will head out too. Once again, thank you so much for your help, I'll make sure to share the resulting images with y'all!
Once again, you can email me at [email protected] if you have any other comments, questions, etc. Thanks!

That definitely sums up small town living. I almost felt like I was no longer in my office but at the football field. Mr. Hernandez, you just found an journalist to promote your great photography. Nice post Boys 2 Men.

Once again I'd like to thank y'all for your help. I ended up attending the Jayton-Guthrie match up last Friday and had a great time. It was awesome seeing six-man for the first time and I hope I'll get to see more of it soon.
Here is the link to the blogpost on the game: http://www.guillermo-hernandez.com/blog ... as-week-12
Thank y'all very much once again, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the game or are in need of a photographer.
Thanks!
