Outlaws & Independents - Claude? Irion Co? Roby?

Leman Saunders

Six-man expert
Claude ISD will be discussing at a board meeting tonight the possibility of playing 6man football....my understanding is that this will be for the 2018 meaning they would be an outlaw school. Been smoke here all summer so it is not a topic coming totally out of the blue for them although they have kept it rather quiet for a while now.

Stay tuned for developments.

Irion County has been active in preparing for 6man, but doubt will play any varsity games this season (jr high, and JV if they can field one, is more likely). Outlaw in 2019 seems more likely.

Roby...we have discussed elsewhere...seriously doubt they play six-man this year, next year, or ever

Okay so why / when did the term “Outlaw” replace Independent? We are an Independent, by choice. Lots of reasons to be Independent, all of them, for one reason or another fit the program for each INDIVIDUAL organization or team. The term “Outlaw” is usually used to identify someone who breaks the law, rules, or some other negative connotation. Nothing could be further from the truth.
We are simply INDIVIDUAL teams and organizations that are INDEPENDENT and therefore not forced to play teams or schedules that take us long distances or otherwise cause issues with our kids.
Please remember these are KIDS playing football, not Outlaws.
Thanks

Outlaw is sexier lol

Independant is I think the better term, I like it because it has a sense of the good ol fashion American spirit and dare I say Texas spirit in it....striking out on your own, doing it yourself...but then again an Outlaw kind of embodies that too as they are operating outside the accepted laws (in this case the UIL)

If you will allow me to try to coin a phrase here...
Afterall isn't one man's Independant another man's Outlaw?

Independent- Free from outside control, not dependent on outside authority.
Outlaw - living outside the law

Words in a Country Song
“ Ladies love Outlaws the way babies love stray dogs”
Can we agree that the definition of Independent certainly sounds better ?
Just saying.........

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Let's say "Independent" is more classy, where "Outlaw" is more sexy... yet they are interchangeable depending on perspective. Both are correct descriptions as I understand it (which might not be right and if Im not Im ok with that). I think Outlaw is the more layman's term (pun surely intended...and don't call me Shirley) where as Independent is the more sophisticated of the the two....

What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet...

I've been wondering about Mertzon ever since the Boys Ranch near them decided to go to TLC. Claude I did not know about. I wonder if more Panhandle schools are nearing that decision point.....
