Not much happening on the board here...................

WOW! The highest poster in Melani at 7. Several at 4. Not much to talk about when football is not actually being played. I check this board 5 or 6 times a day and I am guilty of not posting much either....LOL.

Let's think of some topics and start some threads, I just did it here........ok, ok, not the most exciting thread around I know, but it is one.

Hope to read you soon,

Andy

OK, here's one I've mentioned in a couple of other post's. From what I've read elsewhere nominations were in & decisions made in (?) January (?). Does anyone KNOW who will play in the allstar game in Lubbock in July? :?: :?: :?:

Yeah , agree with 51eleven, where are the rosters for the all-star games. I have had two or three pm's sent to me saying they would send me a roster and they never come. Can someone just post them on a thread.

Wow...North Carolina showed (when healthy) just how dominate they are. Can Hansborough (sp?) play at the next level? Who will be the #1 pick in the draft Griffin or Hansborough? :?

Ah yes Markf, the optimisim of spring (lows in the 20's last night in N Central Tx?). The smell fo fresh cut grass (they must have been watering it). With a day off today the Rangers won't start their traditional cellar slide until at least tomorrow....
And we'll get a couple of good slow soakin rains in the next week or two to make all the farmers & ranchers happy.....

Oops. Sorry to be a bit pessimistic there (or is it realistic?) but it's only Tuesday. And what is a Tuesday but a leftover Monday (with no MNF). Not even Hump Day yet. If I put my headin a vise maybe I can squeeze out something positive by Thursday or Friday... And they say you get what you expect???
On a 6M Football note. Saw where Abbott plays Follett at 6M Super Saturday in Hico on Abbott's schedule. No full day shedule yet on the Super Saturday website. Related post on another thread regarding dove leases near Hico; I've invited a couple of friends to SS the last couple of years to experience 6m Football 1st hand, they'd love to but it's the opening weekend of Dove Season (I regard dove as practice for quail which are worth eating). With his pull in Austin do you think Granger might be able to get the opening day of Dove season moved up or back a week since it's just an excuse to drink beer & shoot guns (which can be fun if you don't drink too much beer)? While he's at the big pink granite building could he get that guns on campus thing nixed too? I don't want to be around a hung over 21 yr old frat rat packin a legal magnum when he (or she) gets their F for partyin instead of studyin. Oops again. Guess I went too far there. Could be a reaction or two comin  :o

Just wondering about the selection process. Thought there might be rules regarding 1 per team/2 per district etc. Looked at last years roster, Gordon had 3, May 2. All from same district. RS had 2. The point I'm getting to is Linsey is the State Defensive MVP (was outstanding on offense too) & deserves to be there. Shouldn't the State Overall MVP - Johny Abbott -be there or at least asked?

The extra Gordon player last year was an alternate and May was not in the same district in 2007. Lindsey and Vargas are the all-star reps for dist 10 dI. I have heard there is a good possibility that Johny Abbott and Colt Price from Gordon will also make the team as alternates. There are no rules about whether both players can come from one team, at least there haven't been any rules like that in the past. That had to be hard picking the top two from this district with really four of the best seniors in the state in Lindsey and Abbott from Strawn and Price and Vargas from Gordon. I personally would have found it a travisty if Vargas hadnt made the list as he was one of the top 2 or 3 players in the state (I would pick him as my top RB of all time to come out of Gordon).

Thanks for info. In no way meant to downgrade Vargas. Watching from the other side of the field I held my breath each time he touched the ball, or was yellin get him, get him, get him (before he gets away). Don't know what his 40 time was but once he got in the open Abbott & maybe Johnson were about the only ones that stood a chance. Wondered why he wasn't listed at RB at the Regional level at least (even 2nd team) as opposed to DL. Best ever RB at Gordon? Don't know. Let's see, Campbell's were QB's?. Kostia played? Andy....
Would like to see Lindsey & Price in a boxing or rasslin match.
In a related note, I was saddened to hear of the passing of Gordon 06 all region DL Cody Barton. My heart goes out to family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, all.

I wonder how good a Gordon/Strawn consolidated 11man team would have been this past season. I think they would definately be state contenders even if it was their first year in 11man.

Difficult to speculate on for me. I don't keep up with the 1A scene, who the powerhouses are etc. Think they would probably contend in most districts based on talent level but would probably need more weight on the line to do so for state. Then there's the aspect that some of the 1A teams should drop to 6M where enrollment allows because their spread too thin in the 1st place. Still with Adams or Lee coaching if they got out of district anything's possible.
Andy started this thread of not much happening but hasn't posted since. As a Gordon ex/6M player what do you think of Vargas as the best ever RB from there?

Ill make this easier... here is the all time RB list for Gordon... I think this is pretty much widely accepted in one order or another...

Daniel Vargas - Talent and amazing instincts. He had a talent for making defenses look foolish. The first play from scrimmage vs Richland Springs this year was a perfect example.

Jason Sizemore - He was very Quick and was a natural. He probably owns the Gordon career TD record. He also only lost one regular season game in his career (the very first game as a freshman).

Clyde Parham - Quick and speedy, hard to grab once he got past the line of scrimmage. He carried Gordon to it's first semi-final game ever and went on to play in college.

Chance Kite - Excellent complement to Lyle, but stood his own ground well, very quick. He was very important to Gordon's success in '99 and was often wrongly underestimated.

You can see these guys run on www.gordonlonghorns.com video page (Vargas against Strawn in 07 was his true breakout game).

There are a few others that would make the list below these guys including Mike Reed, Josh Roper, and Martin Santibanez to name three. What do you think Andy or Eddie G.?

I feel guilty......I started this thread and not another post by me.

Let's see, all time running back........Andy Martin 81 to 84.....WAIT!!!! I was a center. LOL

My freshman year I had Tommy Kelleher and Clyde Parham in the backfield. I had to play 2nd string defense against them in practice and they would run all over you. Clarence Hobbs would have to be thrown in there somewhere.

I did not watch any 6-man football after 1984 until the Strawn State game in 2003. Why you ask?? It was depressing, I missed it that much......not a good enough reason? I lived all over the US but followed it when Granger started this site.

I know there were some great running backs this year and I watched both of the Gordon/Strawn games. It would be hard for me to pick the best overall from Gordon.

Strawn and Gordon in 11 man. State all the way of course......hmmmm. I do not know if there would be the same interest by the players that there is in 6-man. Think about your team, would they love 11-man as much as they now love 6-man??? A question to ponder.

Football isfootball but you all have to agree with me (or I will hunt you down) that 6-man is so much better.

Andy
