Location of State Championships and the cost

Six-man fan
After paying $12.00 a person to get in and then seeing the number of fans actually at the game I was left with this thought: Abilene is a great place to have the game, but the fans would have easily fit into Wylie's Bulldog Stadium, just down the road. The field is just as nice, the video display on the board is actually slightly larger than Shotwell, the press box is nicer, and the price per admission would be less.

I don't know why anyone would want to go to Houston to watch any game. Abilene is a great place for six man fans and athletes to play. It's not where you play that counts; the main thing is you get to play in a state championship game. If you are disgruntled because you are not getting to play in a particular place, a player or fan's focus is in the wrong place. Just an opinion. Congratulations to the four teams representing six-man teams in the state championships.

How do you know the admission price would be lower?? Those prices are set by the respective teams. At least they were in the past. Shotwell is the bomb. The main problem this year is the order. The Division one game played second would keep the bulk of the fans in the stands longer. Playing later would be wiser, also, say 3;00 and 6 or 6;30. A football game played at lunch isn't necessary when just two games are on the venue.
Copulate Houston. If your willing to travel that far, might as well argue for Lubbock or Wichita Falls. The only argument for driving to the coast is to escape the freezing weather of global warming. There's an oxymoron. (:

Give me Shotwell or Give me Death!

I like Shotwell too but AT&T Stadium was worth the drive up the previous two years. As far as the fans are concerned, Abilene seems to be pretty well situated in the middle of 6-man country but I've been to a couple of games there where it got a little cold (especially the second game). Not so much with AT&T stadium (climate controlled) and, if you tell Jerry you're from the WV, he'll let you sit in his private box. Really! I wouldn't lie to you folks (except when I predict the outcome of games). You can bet the ranch on that! :-)

I suspect admission price is set by the UI of L....
Shotwell is just fine IF the 6-Man community is going to be relegated to second class citizens again. still.
The games are not for the fans, they're for the players. I know many of the players were ecstatic getting to play at AT&T Stadium. I would not have gone to Houston, but it doesn't seem to me like much more than the teams' fans went to Abilene, even being in the heart of our teams' world.
This is only Twitter rumbling, but I saw some very upset tweets coming out of the 6-Man Coaches Association meetings when they were told the games would be at Shotwell....

On second thought, since six-man is finished the week before all the other classifications, let's add a week to the playoffs. Where do you prefer, Bi-district or the Finals? I dig the idea of adding another playoff team from each district, and the last two playing 16 games.

Moons ago, I guy I know played a state championship at Wylie. After arriving at the stadium he had to mark 5 yard lines and then dress the team in a equipment shed. That being said, and it was long ago, he said he would have played in the parking lot. This guy says a lot of stuff, but just saying.

FoHorns40 is correct about the gate prices. UIL sets them at the state game.
Ticket price is inconsequential. I'd pay $20. Went to a movie last month in Early and payed $50. for four kids and myself. Then we blew through another fifty at the concession stand. The movie was good for a change, but I still felt like a 21.

$12 is very reasonable.

Unlike a game at your place or mine, you may not have an available group of volunteers (unless they're rounded up from the Chamber of Commerce or some larger high school booster club that makes some cash out of it) for gate, concessions and such.

Chances are those folks are getting paid. Add in security and maintenance crews, and all of a sudden, you got a lot of expenses. Plus, you're playing two state title games and it would be nice to have a place with at least two -- preferably four -- good sized locker rooms for the participating teams.

Not every place that has enough seating has the other facilities needed to make those games go off without a hitch.

Just my opinion (which is what this board is made up of)
AT&T is the place to play. The chance to play in a pro stadium like the players you grew up watching on Sunday is where it is at. Fan convienence has ZERO to do with it. The game is about the kids playing not old farts like us having to drive to watch

Finally someone I can agree with. It seems like some forget that its about the kids.

Hope I am wrong, but I stated when all the ATT deal came up I hoped it was not a short time deal because in sixman history, things start great then people decide we are not worth the trouble. This is happened several times in the past and sure smells like it might happen again.

Forget AT&T boys, Jerry won't let us return because it doesn't make good business sense. No profit. Unless...I say unless he does it to make himself appear noble, and I don't think he sees six-man as a necessary way for him to look noble.
Read some of any of his books and you'll get a better feel for how his mind views every thing.
I could be wrong. He is a complicated cat.

Jerry is motivated by the bottom line. With the UIL involved I am fairly confident in saying Jerry would have a guaranteed minimum gate for all games including the 10 crowded field games.
Still curious about attendance numbers at Shotwell. Even in the heart of our world, I thought attendance was fairly small. Significantly less than the last two years at the Deathstar.

Yeah, and that was with really nice weather.

I think I prefer Shotwell.
The RS Coyotes are 7-0 there all-time and 5-0 in State Championship Games.
Not to mention Shotwell folks letting us have our awesome Game Day Coyote tailgate party!

If Coyotes can keep Hico and Hamilton as playoff sites they have done will there also. Course when you are gazillion and 3 not too many sites are not good for your team.

Bill, are you sure? I had it down as 6-0 Championship Games at Shotwell. One at San Angelo. Where did I miss one?
