Hit and knocking offensive players off their routes

What I remember about re-routing or hit offensive players is in high school as long as the ball is not being thrown in the air a defensive player can bump and re-route players anywhere on the field?

You are allowed to bump, push, until the receiver and the defender are on the same yard line, ( even with each other) then you have to defend without contact if the ball is in the air. Incidental contact is ignored.

What does it mean "on the same yard line"?

When offensive and defensive players are on the same yard line------both on the 22 1/2, 25, 33, goal line, etc.
