Here are a couple of Div 1 and 2 previews..Good Work!

Hate to tell yall but Richland Springs 44 game win streak is no where near the longest in Texas Six-Man History...Fort Hancock won 70 in a row...and there were a few other teams that won between 48-60 games in a row...

So yall might want to edit that out of the DII preview...

Yap 70 in a row I double checked The Fort won 4 state titles in a row, 1988-91 and lost in the 5th in 1992...winning 70 in a row in the process...

Others six-man team had longer than 44: In the 1950s including Nueces Canyon had 48+...there have been a few others but I can't remember exactly how many games it was in a row so I don't want to try to list them without double checking...but those 2 have longer for sure

Nice job. I really appreciate the balanced reporting.

One slight correction I saw is that Abbott (not Follett) beat Dallas Covenant in week 0. Than in week 2 Dallas Covenant defeated the #1 ranked Throckmorton Greyhounds. Then in Week 4 Dallas Covenant defeated Valley, the #1 ranked team (of week 4 by sixmanfootball.com).

Now Abbott & Throckmorton play for the State Championship.

Borden Co also had a 40+ streak at the same time as Nueces Canyon.

Did they play 8 man then?

Help me here. Show me where I missed this. I show Fort Hancock with 54 in a row, according to Lone Star Football Network.

  • 1988 7 wins
    1989 14
    1990 12
    1991 11
    1992 10
    total 54

Thanks Legacy. Our sport does not get alot of exposure. Both of these are excellent.
Looks like the Follett QB's got a good arm. Hope he's a good dancer or they have really good blockers based on what I saw last weekend in Hico.

I think it would be a safe assumption that Ft. Hancock played at least 14 games every year throughout their run. I know that when we beat them in 1992 (PC) that at the time they were tied for the longest winning streak in the nation at 70. That number has since been eclipsed by De La Salle in California and I believe by a Smith Center in Kansas (both are 11 man programs). There is a great book about the Smith Center team called Our Boys: A Perfect Season on the Plains.

Thanks for your input Coach. Do you have any source or does anyone else to verify the 70 win figure.
The Nueces Canyon teams won 65 in a row from 1956 thru 1961, but at that time District was as far as you could go in 6-man. I believe 1972 was the first year to crown a State Champ.

You had to bring up 8 man did'nt you

Spread - sources: Underwood's book for one (look in the back in Coach Medina's profile), Call Coach Medina for #2, #3 San Angelo papers from 1992 talking about it, and #4 I think it is written on their water tower (only in West Texas can you cite a water tower as a source!)

So ya RS has some more work to do...don't know why legacy thought 44 was the longest...like I said probably about 4 schools in six-man with longer.

Actually back then they played 2 playoff games and crowned Regional Champs and that was as far as it went...NC's win streak and how long it was is up for debate...what is your source for it being 65???

In the 1960 season they had it up to 47 in a row and the Texas record was 49 held by Abilene High. They beat Center Point either for the 47th or 48th in a row...then they played Harper and beat them...them went on to win the last 2 games in 1960...however Harper protested their game vs NC claiming they used an ineligible player, the UIL upheld the NC victory but the District Committee did not and awarded Harper the win and Harper was named District Champs and played and lost in Bi-District to D'Hanis....

So like I said the NC win streak is up for debate but it went at least 47 games

SPREAD - Again I stress if that 65 in a row number came from what you saw on Lonestarfootball it may not be correct as that is a work in progress not the end all be all season by season record for schools...
