Help Identify Writing

Need to ask all you learned individuals for a little help. The inscription in the picture below is on a headstone of a relative that was killed while shipping cattle back in the 20's (I think). He was poling cattle up on a rail car and either fell in with the cattle or fell off the train.
Just curious about the inscription. I first thought it was Hebrew but was told that it is not. Any help is appreciated.

I really think it is Hebrew and from the Psalms. This incident really devasted his family. He was only 17 or 18 and was an only child. This one event changed the lives of my immediate family as well as other family members. It is amazing to see how seemingly minor things impact the future.

It does look like a Hebrew script... but whether or not it is a dialect or even ancient Hebrew I have no idea. Who told you it wasn't?

met a guy at a funeral who is associated with a seminary in Dallas. He just glanced at it and dismissed as not Hebrew. Had another guy say, "It is a stylized Hebrew derived from the traditional block script, and using a sort of nekudot -- the minor marks indicating vowels."
I tend to believe the latter.
Had another opinion that it was Sanscrit.
Where is Goob when you need him?

Got it id'd. pretty sure it is a combination of printed and cursive Hebrew. Guy at the feed store in town is translating it now. No kidding, at the feed store.

Nice to have someone versed in Hebrew at the feed store. Will come in handy when all those Israeli farmers decide the Sinai is too dry. Heck, Texas will feel like home after the summer y'all have had.

Thanks for all the info I am confident that it is Hebrew. Unimpeachable sources have independently confirmed. Guess I better go get ready for a Bar Mitzvah. We have some catching up to do.

Do you have direct Spanish ancestry? Not Mexico, but Spain. There were a lot of secret Spanish Jews who were forcibly converted during the Inquisition who secretly maintained Jewish worship and initiated the children as adults. Outwardly Catholic, but Jewish in private.

I leave the genealogy to my DSS (Dear Sweet Sister) but I know that one side immigrated from Germany (Munich area) in the late 1840's-early 1850's to the Llano/Mason area where they settled and my branch married folks from Tennessee. The Tennessee branch has been traced back to 1714 England. My great-great grandmother was named Tennessee because she was the first child born in Texas after they arrived.
I guess the short answer is not to my knowledge.

can you repost a better picture?
I snapped this one "blind" with my phone. I think my sis took a better one. I will get her to send it to me and post.
pretty sure we have it solved but appreciate any additional info.

Perhaps you don't need a bar mitzvah. Remember, Jesus was Jewish. He knew nothing of Christianity... perhaps your ancestors held close to Jesus' roots?

My pastor
(recent seminary grad in biblical languages)
studied the photo,
said he didn't know.

Was wondering if you could share
what headstone said
if it's not too personal?

it is supposedly dates. I am trying to get a better pic. they think a birthdate in 1901 and then another date in 1910. I doubt 1910 is date of death because of age and circumstance of death. I will continue research and get back to you.
thanks.
